Must be the most beautiful war movie ever made. The horror of war captured by every mans own fear of what they had to face. The not knowing where this violent journey would take them. Into insanity? To death? Home again..ever? To see a glimspe of beauty in the midst of the surrounding death...a sign of hope.
War changes you forever, when I first experienced rocket fire, when seconds pass like hours, and you pray to god for your next breath, just one more minute of life........ But this slowly passes until one day you ask yourself why the fuss, why are people puking and crying for their mothers. Then you go home and see everyone walking about as if everything is normal in the world --a restlessness settles in.Back in that other far away world you know your'e alive part of something
@12Nostromo Very soulful and thought provoking. Thank You for sharing and especially THANK YOU for fighting for our freedom, peace and stability! You have a gift for writing, conveying meaning to the reader, some of the best stuff I've ever read on the box or anywhere. The son of the Chaplain, the most decorated officer in U.S. Naval history.
@HaggenPagan26 Neither you or me are experts, but I think that Band of Brothers is the best depiction of war, as of yet. Most guys keep sane and healthy, while there´s those exceptions, like Blithe and Buck, and eventually some more guys, who don´t lose it because of the war in itself, but because they´ve been in it too long.
The Thin Red Line shows ONE side of the story. All the troops are raped virgins and the high officers care more about their career than of their troops.
@jasonwongx Are you that shameless? That you would post nonsense on a channel, when its premise is the destruction of men at war? You need help, you are a sick individual who trolls an anonymous person on YouTube.
This movie sucked. It is anti-war at its worst. Soldiers generally adapt to the horrors of war within three days of combat - this movie depicts an entire outfit that can´t adapt during the time span of an entire battle. Maybe 1 in 10 soldiers didn´t adapt, but in this movie they let that 1 represent all 10. It´s actually quite outrageous - if there ever was a "fair" war movie, this is not it.
@Faxe90Swe I totally disagree. No one ever learns to cope or "adapt" to something as absurd as War. Granted there were some brave men on those islands who held their own. But I think what this film tries to convey is that contrary to earlier War pictures, this one really delves into the psychological effect that War can have on the human mind.
Wake up man, no one ever wins in a war. Everyman on both sides is a casualty.
@HaggenPagan26 Now, that´s fanatic anti-war talk. Beginning with ww2, several psychologists has made measurements - and the average result is three days to adapt. Three days to get used to bullets flying about, seeing death, the noise etc. How do you think men could serve on the frontline weeks in row, and be in war zones for years in row? The thing is that most soldiers don´t experience these mental scars until after they´re back in civilization. While in service, they just do their job.
@Faxe90Swe You say you are not an expert, but you sure speak like you are. The best depiction about men at war I think is the Pacific, BOB was far too watered down.
@Faxe90Swe Bob was good. But it was kind of like watching a war film with a 1950's feel with year 2000 technology.
Stop trying to assume that men would just adapt to a combat situation. Me and you could never imagine the fear and anxiety that war can bring about in men, because we have never been near a war.
@HaggenPagan26 I´M NOT THE ONLY ONE ASSUMING HERE! Geez, stop trying to assume that all men break and cry in combat situations - you see, it goes both ways. We are both on a limb here, so stop being so sanctimonious.
@Faxe90Swe And this is coming from a swede. Your country was neutral in both world wars.
The movie doesn't suggest that all men break in combat. But it subjectively examines the thoughts and emotions of different soldiers from different walks of life.
The Pacific war was horrible not just because of it's geography but because there was no surrender. It was a fight to the finish and a lot of the fighting was as savage as war can get.
@HaggenPagan26 Here we go, I knew it would come. What does my nationality have to do with this! You haven´t been at war neither, even if you come from a warring country. Would I be more bright in this question if my country had fought ww2? Is that your logic? Don´t I have the right to talk of this because my country doesn´t poke its nose around in the worlds business and interfer where profitable? Not only are you one big kliché, you´re a stupid one at that.
@Faxe90Swe All sane men would. I know I would find it hard to live with myself after killing a man, even if I were just doing my job. I know I would cry if one of my friends died. But I guess you're just a bad ass mother fucker.
@Apkans You should read everything i wrote before you go that road. I never said that men wouldn´t feel bad about what they´ve done and experienced: I said that most guys don´t whine about until they get back home and can do some proper thinking about it.
Most soldiers, in real life that is, seem to be either indifferent to the morals of war, or they enjoy it. Just recently Norway´s people was "shocked" when they heard their troops in Afghanistan say that combat is better than sex.
@Apkans And those guys aren´t psychos as portrayed by Bunny in The Platoon etc, they simply enjoy the ruch of combat, the adrenaline, just as people base jump or knock theeths out at fotball games.
@HaggenPagan26 For the record, I didn´t mean that the movie suggest that all men break in combat - I meant that you suggest that all men break in combat.
Oh, buhuu, in war everyman´s a casualty! I do declare, for coming from a war nation, which in your world seem to be of importance to the issue at hand, you sure sound like wimp. You sound like a Swede.
i waatched this film when i was quite young, and i didnt really get it, but when i watch it now, i find it so beautiful, and its funny, because when i say that to people they often respond "war is not beautiful" but they dont understand the beauty of this film, the poetry, the philosophy, the monologues by the diffrent characters, this is an absoloute master peice,a nd although it didnt get the recognition it deserves no film will come close to this for a while.
The flashbacks, the great bloody battle scenes and the stunning landscape shots give the viewer the perfect contrast of the brutality of war and the beauty of nature and life! Thats it!
I've never understood why Saving Private Ryan received such accolades. The Thin Red Line was released around the same time and is far superior in virtually every way. This movie always gives me the shivers and i always have tears welling up. It's so realistic and though you dont ever want to be in a war, if you do you hope you are like some of them. Just men trying to stay alive and keep their sanity in a world of madness.
You'd better flush out your head, new guy. This isn't about freedom; this is a slaughter. If I'm gonna get my balls blown off for a word, my word is "poontang".
@Kadaj100 Yeah, if you enjoy distortions and hollow philosophy, this is certainly the best movie ever made. A movie of a thinking soldier and a horrible war always makes money.
@Kadaj100 On another video titled ''Tae Guk Gi: Theme Song '', people are slandering hollywood for making movies that easily resort to use the F word in every line.
@texas224 Taegukgi is for me the second best "anti" war movie. But very far away from TTRL.. Anyway, i don't think TTRL use the F word so easily .. no idea..
Did you know that Hans Zimmer was a member of the eighties group The Buggles, that did "Video Killed The Radio Star". besides that he is he greatest film composer on the planet. this soundtrack proves it
I don't think its relaxing in my eyes. I always have the tought while listening that something bad can happen or has happened. especially in the beginning. later on it gets more "relaxing", as u called it, sure. but never the less there is always sth like a shadow above all, something scary oder more sad feeling in the end...
i often fall asleep to this song and think about war... my last thoughts are of my ancestors who fought for their country, and died for our freedom. I would give anything to do the same. RIP brothers...
kill for freedom? what kind of freedom is that? knowing youv taken so many lives. soldiers of all wars, even now, are not free of the horrors of fighting for freedom. sometimes, i've heard, the dead ones are the lucky ones: they don't hav to live with the memories
just like every single Turkish man, I would give my life for my motherland as well, just like my Polish brother, That is the difference between your people and mine.
Anyone who has any pride would fight for their country dumbass! At least "my people" do not beleive in killing innocent people for religious beliefs! Your people need to wake up and quit killing in the name of your god.
Yes, i ve just checked which country u r from. Yeh i think you live in a cave and dont know anything about how your country fucks innocent people. Are you sure the people you r talking about is my people or YOUR people? Think about it again u will see the point if you got enough capacity. ----Dumbass---
urrrrrgggh zeitgeist is food for left wing wannabes, its completely unsourced and designed to stir suspicion, its borderline propoganda, and the narrators condescending internet know it all dickhead tone makes it a drag to watch
It might be sth about you only, in your opinion. So in your words you dont think about your nations future. Its all about you the mentality is "you ll be dead anyway" ... BUT your children will still be alive... Think about that..
Maybe we should stop killing in the name for what is good... I mean i'm dutch The u.s and holland pretty mutch fight for the same cause. My nephew is in afghanistan and he wonders how mutch hell we should go trough or/and inflict in order to do good.
I din't say i belived it. I mean alot of people belive that and goverments give that as a reason "peace mision". Besides according to your opinion there are alot of morons in this world.
Oh my god!!! I asked him to spell a little better. I'm such a jerk!! I must have no compassion!! When did people become so sensitive?
I was told to grow up and care for people. Do you know me? Do you think you know me? Maybe you have special abilities and can figure a person out by reading few sentences. You are a better person than me. ALANSHEARERISDUMB!!!
My general point is correct though. His spelling is atrocious. That is not meant to be insulting but honest. If English is his second language, then I apologize. If not, then you who criticize me for admitting the truth and rushing to his poor defenseless self need to grow up. Maybe you need a pacifier and a blanket as you nurse from mommy's teat. Hey Parafleet!! Are you kidding me? Hahahaha. Spelling is conformity? So simple your thoughts are. Are you a disillusioned flowerchild.
Wow, I'm shocked at how the ignorant are convinced that they are not. I guess if I had wriiten about "brave American heroes" then I would get a more positive response when asking for a least a little spelling. I actually agree with warmsteel. My favorite part of the movie is how they don't glorify killing and give honor and a sense of reality to the characters, as well as, the mental anguish we place these brave young men.
spelling "right" is conformity. if "shmoo" was agreed upon to mean "apple" 300 years ago..then we'd all be eating shmoos when we were eating apples. grow up. care for people..even though they're frustrating.
war and the destruction of nature...destruction of all that is good. Malick (unlike another Texan who we shall refrain from mentioning) acknowledges the utter destruction that war wreaks on nature.
also the movie shows the inner struggle of young men thrown into a war, the things that keep them alive, their inner beliefs, the things they get their mental strength from to go on every day, what keeps them together.
Yes!! Another thing great with it is that it shows hos terrible war really are. It deos´nt show the brave military heroes of America that kills all the Japanese with heroic patriotic music.
this was no war movie it's about something else something that words can't describe with precision it had affected deeply my way of thinking and my idea about the others , i saw it many times seems like i never get enough .

Its a good movie but theres far to much talking and boring cut scenes showing soldiers and their wives.
Im sure alot of soldiers had love lifes, we dont need to see this in the movie for the effect to still be there.
Out of 4 stars I would give it 1.5

kill for freedom? what kind of freedom is that? knowing youv taken so many lives. soldiers of all wars, even now, are not free of the horrors of fighting for freedom. sometimes, i've heard, the dead ones are the lucky ones: they don't hav to live with the memories
potaoesNgravy 3 years ago 5
i rather be dead then to be someone a heavy form of PTSS...

just like every single Turkish man, I would give my life for my motherland as well, just like my Polish brother, That is the difference between your people and mine.

Anyone who has any pride would fight for their country dumbass! At least "my people" do not beleive in killing innocent people for religious beliefs! Your people need to wake up and quit killing in the name of your god.
scruku 2 years ago
Yes, i ve just checked which country u r from. Yeh i think you live in a cave and dont know anything about how your country fucks innocent people. Are you sure the people you r talking about is my people or YOUR people? Think about it again u will see the point if you got enough capacity. ----Dumbass---

Actually because I CAN think for myself, I dont believe the propaganda and B.S. media that you are stupid enough to believe.
Who is the dumbass?!?
scruku 2 years ago 4
urrrrrgggh zeitgeist is food for left wing wannabes, its completely unsourced and designed to stir suspicion, its borderline propoganda, and the narrators condescending internet know it all dickhead tone makes it a drag to watch

yeah why would you want to die for freedom? What's the point of it, sheesh... you'll be dead anyway. I would want to FIGHT if needed, but not die...
meggido666 3 years ago
It might be sth about you only, in your opinion. So in your words you dont think about your nations future. Its all about you the mentality is "you ll be dead anyway" ... BUT your children will still be alive... Think about that..

Maybe we should stop killing in the name for what is good... I mean i'm dutch The u.s and holland pretty mutch fight for the same cause. My nephew is in afghanistan and he wonders how mutch hell we should go trough or/and inflict in order to do good.

If you think any country anywhere in this world attacks another and kills for good, then you're a moron.
Diomedes22 2 years ago 2
I din't say i belived it. I mean alot of people belive that and goverments give that as a reason "peace mision". Besides according to your opinion there are alot of morons in this world.

Oh my god!!! I asked him to spell a little better. I'm such a jerk!! I must have no compassion!! When did people become so sensitive?
I was told to grow up and care for people. Do you know me? Do you think you know me? Maybe you have special abilities and can figure a person out by reading few sentences. You are a better person than me. ALANSHEARERISDUMB!!!
P.S. Hans Zimmer is a genius!!!
jwri11 3 years ago
My general point is correct though. His spelling is atrocious. That is not meant to be insulting but honest. If English is his second language, then I apologize. If not, then you who criticize me for admitting the truth and rushing to his poor defenseless self need to grow up. Maybe you need a pacifier and a blanket as you nurse from mommy's teat. Hey Parafleet!! Are you kidding me? Hahahaha. Spelling is conformity? So simple your thoughts are. Are you a disillusioned flowerchild.
jwri11 3 years ago
Wow, I'm shocked at how the ignorant are convinced that they are not. I guess if I had wriiten about "brave American heroes" then I would get a more positive response when asking for a least a little spelling. I actually agree with warmsteel. My favorite part of the movie is how they don't glorify killing and give honor and a sense of reality to the characters, as well as, the mental anguish we place these brave young men.
jwri11 3 years ago
Absolutely stunning! I never tire of listening to Zimmer's fabulous music.

Please don't post about someone's spelling when you don't know the basics of grammar.
Pathetic.
ALANSHEARERISGOD 3 years ago
Hey Warmsteel. learn to spell. Pathetic
jwri11 3 years ago
spelling "right" is conformity. if "shmoo" was agreed upon to mean "apple" 300 years ago..then we'd all be eating shmoos when we were eating apples. grow up. care for people..even though they're frustrating.
parafleet 3 years ago
Hey jwri11, get a life.
Pathetic.

The last part of that song is absolutely beautiful.
The entire soundtrack is great. It's a pity I hadn't seen the movie so far.

love, life, human nature, nature, philosophy, spiritualism, hope, grief...

war and the destruction of nature...destruction of all that is good. Malick (unlike another Texan who we shall refrain from mentioning) acknowledges the utter destruction that war wreaks on nature.
carlsagan83 3 years ago
also the movie shows the inner struggle of young men thrown into a war, the things that keep them alive, their inner beliefs, the things they get their mental strength from to go on every day, what keeps them together.
amazing movie and an amazing soundtrack
one of the best movies ever made i think
