  • @dqtanjaa degage can also be called battement glisse and battement jete

  • That is not a dégagé. It is a Battement Glisse. ZOMG.

  • is it just me to notice that her knees have a little bent when she closes the legs? they are not fully straightened

  • we call that a battment glisse in australia

  • @flawlessentertain Yeah cause Aussies are Weeeird :)

  • Ballet is so much fun.

  • when you go to the front it looks like you sickling your foot

  • What is the music?

  • Pretty godamn good.

  • why do i find myself doing a round of applause everytime the video finishes? -_-

  • To martin--

Bless you, ballet goddess! It's now just short of impossible to make time for class. But if you want at least any part of life in ballet itself--you gotta make time.

But to make time for class nowadays? Just like the rest, I'm busy... not just busy, I've no more free time. You gave all budding dancers the greatest gift of all.

You actually gave us ballet classes, free of charge on YouTube. We're eternally in your debt.

--See you in class, Dane Youssef

  • brava!

  • All battement exercises "close." Battment tendu, battement degage, grand battement, battement lent. A battement is an opening and closing of the legs. She's not forcing her turnout if her legs are slightly bent while in 5th. She has hyper extended knees which makes it hard to keep the knees straight when in 5th position.

  • oooh lord. she is extremely forcing her turnout . . . you can tell because of how much straighter her legs are when they are in the degage than when they are in 5th.

  • @kaysimpsonian you can also tell because her foot is almost directly to the side and she is not using her hips to turn out, just her feet because her supporting leg/hip is moving around a lot

  • aagh. i agree.

  • this is good what ballet company or school?

  • It's the Pennsylvania Ballet.

  • I am only 20 and have never taken ballet before now in my life. I can use all the help I can get.

  • nicely done!!!

you shift your weight very nicely!!

next time try using your head and fixing your fingers! (those were jazz fingers, not ballet fingers)

  • uhmmmm use your head

  • eh..what's the difference between degage an tendu?

  • degage comes off the ground...tendu stays on the ground.

  • Oh thanks for the correction, I am just learning ballet off of a dvd

  • sophia you rock no ones world because your wrong

  • degage doesn't close, tendu does, glisse comes off the ground

  • fix your fingers

  • One of my teachers calls this move jete and I don't know why. Does anyone know?

  • @aliciacad because that is what it is. she is correct.

  • @shortandchub actually, it would be he.

  • nicly done!

:) i love degages! i dont know why! haha

  • beautiful :) good job!

  • Gr8!Now I can practis all exercises at home!:-)))))

  • Wow Gewelsdig Zo Moeilijk is Dhaa Niej hoor KAn Ik OOk ;)

  • It already looks very good, but you should try to point your feet when you first touch the ground and then you can finish in 5th position.

  • lift your body a little

when you close to fifth position.

so that your knees dont bend.

and dont move your hips so much.

  • I agree. I think her body is too "noisy" - there's a little too much movement in the hips and above.

  • You look sad :-(

My teacher makes us smile a little.

  • the legs where very good just make sure to use the head also

  • degage means to disengage like off the ground...and jete is like a leap, but it depends.

  • u have to use ur head when going front, side, and back

  • @butterflywings223 Huh, it all depends on the exercice you are doing. Some teachers prefer the head to stay in the front of the body so the dancer feels his center more.

  • @butterflywings223 no, some styles of ballet you do but in others like balanchine it is all very straight on and you dont use your head at barre and little in center

  • @butterflywings223 no you dont. not in ALL methods.

  • beautiful I love the music! =)

  • It seems to me that these are Jetés......

Don´t forget to use your head and keep knees tightened when returnig to 5th!

  • Perdão, mas isso não é jeté??

  • you have good posture and legs but you need more headline

  • is degage the same as jeté ?

  • some ppl say degage some say jete...my teacher uses both....

  • no,

    They are completely different.

In a jete you move your legs very quickly, pushing one out and landing on the other.

In a degage, you just do a tendu with a lift in the end.

  • thx !

  • jete is a word used for many steps. degage is sometimes called jete depending on your school.

  • @BalletBully that is incorrect. you are describing a grande jete. Battement jete is taken at the barre: and the leg is beaten at about 45 degrees. Jete simply means to throw in french. There are many types of 'jete' exercises in ballet.

  • her knees keep going soft and bending as she comes in. esp her supporting leg knee, but really both. and she has some other things going on as well, but over all she is going to be beautiful as she gets stronger!

  • her knees bend.. i agree but keeping working on it! looking good! :) don't mean to sound snotty...

  • is degage same as glisse?

  • wo ist der kopf?????ßßß

  • nice feet

  • all of these are completely robotic

  • Very nice battement degages, but remember to use your head! It looks almost robotic unless you do, but if you soften your fingers and use your head, it will really be very lovely.

  • From my point of view: she has to use her head and have her fingers closer to each other. It also looks like she should stand more to her right, cause it looks like she's leaning on the barre.

  • non ha il fisico..piega le ginocchia..tiene le spalle alzate..non mi piace per niente..non stende le punte..la quinta non è prfetta..muove troppo il bacino

  • yes she did look at her feet once again non of these girls are using their head

  • è bravina,ma piega le ginocchia quando torna dallo jete

  • Am I being fussy or is she sitting in her supporting hip a bit?

  • twice

  • did she look at her feet?
