Finally found my video with this performance on it. My version is in black and white though (and really bad quality). It's actually from the same clip as the black and white Zip-a-dee-doo-dah performance also found here on youtube. Both songs played as a medley.

It's from an early American Bandstand appearance and DIck Clark was comparing Michael to Frankie Lymon who was also a young talented kid of his day. They also get presented with a framed gold record at the end of the clip.
