To be fair... I'd say the Mesa amp is not as well set as the Roland.... the Xpression sounds as good if you play it through an amp with better clean tone than the mesa...

So I think I have every right to spend MY hard earned money on quality equipment that gets used regularly, regardless of what some dickhead tells me I "deserve" on the internet. Since the JC-120 is an open back combo, you should try to back it off the wall to have it more room to 'breathe'.
With half of the sound bouncing from the wall, you now get a bit of odd phase cancellation going on.. try it and be amazed how much it affects the tone.

The JC-120 is truly a classic and has a beautiful tone that cuts trough the mix both in studio and live as well as at any rehearsals!
It is no wonder why it has been manufactured and sold without any major alterations for over 30 years!
