Thanks Charlie for sharing your story. I just saw this video yesterday and I will never think of safety rules as a hinderance to my job any more. This is a must have for all employees in any industry. If it only saves one serious injury, it was money well spent and it WILL save more far more injuries than that.
I have to say this video almost made me cry however I did find it very offensive that he is capitalizing off of it. The lesson here is that if you work unsafely you will be rewarded.
@mreuter1987 I work at the ports in melbourne and they showed us the full video as part of our two week induction, what he went through after his accident was awful. I wont list the treatments he had to endure or how long it took for him to "recover" but the video really made me appreciate the hazards of being complacent on the job. I think what he is doing will save lives and prevent horrific injuries. I find your comment "that if you work unsafely you will be rewarded" VERY offensive.
good man charlie. nearly killed yourself and others. that how you make it to the top?
i'll just stay where i am and go home safe to my wife and kids every day without inspiration from you thanks. my kids are my inspiration to work safely.
@TheCrickett1500 I'm glad it touched you Crickett. Because it was meant too. That way you can hold your kids or your families kids. Unlike Charlie. And thats the whole point of these videos. So... JOB WELL DONE CHARLIE!
I live down under and seen this clip at a trainning course for Boral " It made me think more about safety in a differant way, I'm over 50 & I hope the young one's see this guy's clip and under stand to stop and think! before What'Ever they Do? murphsplace
I bet your dad did as well. I certainly had a few
my dad watched this video at work (Kraft Foods Int.). He told me all about it and said it was very moving. He told me some of the women in the room who watched the video had tears in their eyes as they heard Charlie discribe the ordeal he had to endure after the accident
this video is incredible, they show it to us union laborers in osha training, the things this guy went through is insane, his mother came to see him in the hospital right after it happened she walked in the room and said o thank god its not my son...his father came to see him, said hang in there i know you can do it, walked outside had a heart attack and dropped dead....its really sad, but it makes you take safety on the job alot more seriosly

i work at whirlpool corp in findlay ohio..i make dishwashers!...and last night the boxer went down..and so they sent us to a saftey meeting and we eatched (Remember Charlie)...it was a great video!..and I WILL ALWAYS WEAR MY PPE
the DVD costs hundreds of dollars, the whole set costs thousands, okay if you are a corporation, but if your just a bloke then you probably will never get your hands on a copy
I just saw charlie Live today at BP cherry point refinery and WOW is the only word I can think of. They had him come in and speak and I have never been into a safety meeting as much as I was today ever! For 1 hour solid I had the pleasure/horror of hearing what happened to him. What a fantastic speaker!! Thankyou Charlie is about all i can say!!!!!
HE DIDN'T BLOW UP BECAUSE OF SMOKING A CIGARETTE! HE BLEW UP BECAUSE HE LEFT HIS TRUCK RUNNING WHEN HE WAS SUPOSSED TO HAVE IT SHUT OFF WHEN WORKING ON THE GAS LINES. NOT A CIGARETTE. oh, and i didn't mean to type that in all caps .lol. (i'm not yelling)
Totally riveting story.I just saw it at an orientation of a major 1.7B const project.I've been Charlie with the "stupid" things I've done that have gotten me in two violent motorcycle crashes,in one I was trapped under my bike all broken up so I couldn't get it off me..the carbs leaking fuel between my eyes that pooled in my helmet but didn't ignite. My friends pulled it of me.I was also hit by a car.All due to inattentiveness.A must see story. Charlies daughter survived. Thanks Charlie ur a hero
I think that you're right. Charlies wife left him and his daughter TRIED to commit suicide. But didn't go all the way.. I really don't now. Let's hope not.
yeah I'd feel really bad if that happened but what can you say except for, smoking kills (dont do it) at least that is what killed him right? he was on the rig and then there was a gas leak and once he lit it up everything around just went up in one big ball of flame... thaht'd be scary.
uhh I am not sure or not but my dad had to watch this 'cus he works in a foundry and he said Charlies wife left him aand his daughter commited suicide. I dont know if I am right but it is just what I have heard
