why do I always have to talk to tweedle dumb before talking to the real customer.Im sorry but that happens all the time to me.I"d say 90 % of the time whoever I ask whats the problem hasnt a clue what there talking about.
That's your Amana heat pump right? What year is it from? It looks an Amana Prestige 2.5-ton straight-cool unit I saw at foreclosed house in Atlanta once.
2 days later my fan motor locked up (big suprise!) I called the owner of the company & told him he owed me $300 for the bad service call and another $100 for a new fan motor- he agreed to cancel the service call charges but not pay for the motor-
@wolfstan64 This might sound a bit crud. You might have made out in the good. At least you have a new fan motor without having to pay for the service call.
LOL- I had a tech come out not long ago (I was laid up with a bad back) & he said I needed the coil cleaned on my heat pump & that I should change my air filters more often- (I change them 4 times a year) I told him to go ahead just to see how it went- I caught him spraying coil cleaner directly into the fan motor-(outdoor heat pump) When I asked him about it he said, "Oh it wont hurt it , it's designed to get wet. He charged me $150 for a service call and an additional $150 to clean the coil.
Hello Dr Z, I've seen a few of your video's and I just had to comment on this one, I was in the elec field 10 yrs.one of my instructors said " If I had to do it all again I would go in hvac. next year then I'm finally taking his advise. anyway I knew a guy like your "bad tech", it's freaking sad a lot of them take advantage of the elderly, We need more Good Tech's out there!
Thanks Dr Z for you time and effort putting these video's together.
hay my friend i just wanted to tell you you are very funny guy i love your videos im 31 years old im thinking about learning hvac but i only have time to go to a college near my job do you think thats a good idea for me to get an idea
@kodd13 Yes, but you have to weigh your options. Its repair price verse replacement price and of course you take the age of the system into effect also. If you have a 10+ yr old system then you seriously need to weigh your options. The HVAC industry has came along way in efficiency in the past 10 years. But yes you can just replace the compressor.
love it dr z i used to work for a company like thet and i had to leave just could not take the dishonest dollar the wanted us to sell things that were not needed they even made us take sells classes each week what a rip off im still mad i got out have not done hvac
for a while i miss the honesty will go my own this summer
local hvac company charges 106$ per pound just to charge (and recharge, because they also can't braze properly, they don't even have a nitrogen tank !)
Excellent example. I think our tech is trying to con us into mini-splits, while we have a perfectly working central a/c. In fact, the power bill would probably be about the same in the end too, the installtion would be huge from the type of house we have too (not to mention the brand of system they use here)
@DrZarkloff quite right. In fact, it will probably cost about $20000 to get the 5-6 mini splits we need. (We have a concrete house, and the lounge/dining system will have to cool the kitchen at the back of the room too, it'll be where the existing lounge/dining vents are), we could run the central air we have (trane from1985) for about 3-5 years on that!
Nice job Dr. Z. I met a tech like that last summer. He said I needed a new evaporator without even checking mine for leaks. The next day his crew showed up with an evaporator and wanted $4,000. I told them to get lost. My system is working fine.
That was fantastic! I think I see these guys all the time at the supply houses. These are the same fellas marking the refrigerant up 2000% on elderly customers.
@DrZarkloff well, 2000% is an exageration. But I had one where the tech had not only left the drain plug in the OD fan replacement motor (resulting in a line of damage through the whole unit) he left high voltage wires hanging in the cabinet of the unit! Of course, the run cap for that fan was strapped to the hot gas line too.
I love this guys walk, classic
