  • Not usually a fan of "YouTube covers" but I really enjoyed this. Nicely done! Different tone and you really made it your own. :-)

  • Oh wow! This is really really lovely.

  • This is a refreshing cover... More pleasant sounding, less dissonant, but definately with the same heart pounding climaxes.

  • Not a fan of the voice but i like the guitar

  • A beautiful and different cover, but personally I think the song is much better suited for a slower progression and piano, your version is more pop (which is fine and a cool experiment) but for a guitar version to shine I think you should slow it down, and take some rythm out of it..

  • Is he singing through the eyes of his sister? or mother? Because notice he says "I was just a girl then).

  • @nusefractune0087 the song is from the point of view of a girl, but I'm pretty sure it's no one in particular

  • @nusefractune0087 his alter ego is a woman in his songs

  • amazing!

  • Excellent cover, even if a little rushed...

  • Chills.

  • Beautiful interpretation!

  • such a good voice!

  • You sing with such passion that its actually inspiring - you are a very talented and I hope sincerely that you get the recognition you deserve.

  • That was a great version.

  • It's great! Far far better sung, than Rufus did. Why don't you try some Badly Drawn Boy stuff, I think your voice would fit perfectly!

  • It's great! Far far better sung, than Rufus did. Why don't you try some Badly Drawn Boy stuff, I think your voice would fit perfectly!

  • wow very good quality singing and arragements! man you got all what it takes! dont stop!

  • Definitely loved this arrangement. Your voice is very tender and reminds me some 70's protest singer, dunnow... sounds pretty different. Congrats!. It moved me.

  • I like your cover very much. I think that your voice brings to the song a very original sound.

I hope that you will reach your dream.

    Bravo! Bravo!

  • It's very good. Keep singing. Hope you reach your dream one day! Good luck :)

  • At the chance of sounded generic, it was a bit fast, but a great take on the song. Never heard a rendition like this. BIG points for originality. Your trumpet imitation gave me a bit of a giggle, though it was a nice sound effect.

  • Hi.. Realy good version - im sure Rufus would be proud :) Can you plz post a link to the chords you are using - I cant seem to find it anywhere - at least not the way you play it....?!? High Five from Denmark

  • awsome version.. Im sure he would be proud :) Can you plz post a link to the chords you are using - cant seem to find them, at least not the same way you play it.. High Five

  • nice

abit on the hasty side tho

  • very very very good! anyone who says otherwise is a prick.

  • your voice is incredible. it truly is sooo good. i love this version. YAY RUFUS!

  • better than the original in my opinion.

    go Matan! (-:

  • @image700 Toda!

  • Hey, thats special... it;s good to know others consider this song a great song too! - that was a prettty unique cover.... never heard it like that.... I'm more interested in what your doing as a song writer... with your own music.... hit me up I've been known to write piano songs myself.. always keen to hear good songs..

  • Very personnal and beautiful version of the song. Really love it!

  • list55, it's rude to come here to come to come to somebody else's page to criticize them.

  • really nice take on this song :)

  • ruined it! it's not a country song.

  • That sounds country to you? >.> Yikes

  • compared to the original, yes! i'm not against country - i love nanci griffith and like some of garth brooks' stuff - but this guy has taken the most tender feel of the song right out and given it a yee-haw character.

  • @list55 I kind of see what you're saying, but I'd go with more of a folksy sound, or (for lack of a better term) a two-step kind of feel, far more than country.

  • @pdtecrj2 i'm all for doing your own version of songs but if the result spoils it...... i just saw an episode of "flash forward" where they play rufus' version of john lennon's "across the universe". really beautiful. he adds to it instead of taking something out. sometimes i think pieces of music shouldn't be altered at all. no one puts a polka into beethoven's fifth for example, they play it as it was intended to be heard.

  • Hello. I love this song. I think your speaking voice is lovely, intrinsically engaging to may western speakers because of the accent. You have a lovely voice, however I do think you sounds affected at times. Slipping into the note instead of simply hitting at times when it makes you sound a little forced instead of natural. But I do believe you will someday be paid to sing. You are charming in performance, and possess a good sound.

  • Unique rendition. I liked it. So, did you get feedback from Mr. Wainwright?

  • love this song and like your version........well done!

  • fantastic!

  • awesome!!!

  • I love your cover of this song... I'm a huge fan of Rufus, but still I think your version is way better!

  • your obviously talented at guitar playing and singing...but i just can't get into teh twist you put on the song. i say hold your notes longer, and don't try and make a trumpet sound, just sing it man

  • im with this person...

  • @tripsounds010rhcp the trumpet sound was awesome! :D

  • I perform this song too, and this rendition is really very good and fresh. I like it a lot, and I like your voice a lot, too!

  • I like it because you made your own version, you sing with a lot of passion, i love this acoustic version :D

  • i iked it a lot

  • OMG, you're fabulous! This is my favorite Rufus' song and I never thought someone could do as good as he does. So different and still great!

    Congrats!! :)

  • When you first started to sing I thought "oh, no", but it's actually amazing! If there was an mp3 version of it I'd love to have it on my Ipod.

  • Lovely

  • Lovely! ...You met Rufus...? D:

    You luck dog you!

  • the more i watch your videos and the more i appreciate! I am your fan! Keep singing for us!

  • Excellent video! Great job...Are you straight? Just curious, cuz I am. And for this I get teased when I play Rufus on my guitar. People think I'm in the closet. Very ignorant people out there and always will be

  • That stinks. I say embrace the gay love! *is kidding, please don't take offense*

Kudos on you for playing Rufus Wainwright! Even more for being straight. Most straight men (that I've encountered) aren't too fond of Rufus simply because he's gay. It's a shame really. :(

  • Really interesting cover, very impressive.

  • hi you are adorable

  • Es fantastico, lovlely song ¡¡¡

  • It's a different style than the original (which I love), but suprise - I love it. You've got an amazing beautiful singing voice, young man, I mean it. You really got talent. Go do something with it, I'm a fan.

  • wow i really like it!!! 5*

  • not so fast... but very good.

  • Yeah...bit rushed :)

    Thanks for listening!

  • Talented son of a bitch.. I mean, fuck you're good! Sorry for the lack of proper language, but you're really something! Stunning. Marvelous.

  • I think I like yours better than the original. Really awesome.

  • To be honest, I like your version better then his

  • you are beautiful. i wasn't expecting much when i clicked the link, but you blew me away. such a refreshing cover of one of rufus's more passionate songs.

i could listen to you all day. keep it up, i'm definately a fan.

  • this is wonderful!

  • wow I was about to post my video of this song and then I saw this... I'm thinking about starting over lol... awesome version.

  • wow, you blew me away with this cover, nice transformation from piano to guitar. You totally remind me of Bret Mckenzie from the flight of the conchords when you sing, nice voice.

  • Wonderful, really wonderful!!!

  • That was amazing, I have already posted this comment, but I listened to it again today after months of not seing the video, and it still impresses me. Thank you for putting this up.

    B.

  • oh my god! YOU ARE AMAZING! the guitar and you voice. an the way you sing it. shit! awesomeness!!!!

  • This is one of my favourite Rufus Wainwright songs as well. I think it was absolutely brilliant! You have a unique style and a unique voice that's quite stunning. And I have to say two things: you're really lucky to have met Rufus Wainwright, (I'm quite jealous right now =]), and I'll be looking for your first album in stores! Good luck! =D

  • what's the guitar tunning?

    please..

  • Um...the guitar tuning is standard.

If you mean the chords...I suggest you look them up on Google, that's where I found them!

  • Beautiful! That was an amazing version..great voice, thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks! :)

  • wow :)

  • I love your voice, but you are singing with your mouth virtually closed and hence you can't make out some of the words. Watch the video back and you'll see what I mean.

  • I Do know. Yup, working on it... thanks for listening.

  • this is actully-- well Its wow. I do not think it is better than the orginal..but you made it your own. its hard to do that with songs which are really made for one person to sing. Thumbs up!!

  • A laudable effort...liked the way you handled those tricky end-of-verse phrases.

That horn solo...made me think a bit of that monkey in Jungle Book...but still, it worked!

  • Wonderful job man! Original and sung with style.

  • I loved the french horn solo. :DD

  • This is wonderfull. I love your cover and I love your voice.

    Dont stop performing.

your version seems to touch me more.

  • Thanks, that's a lovely comment!

  • I love this song... but I hate Rufus' voice ^^'' ... This version is very good, you got talent !

  • I think you did an amazing job on it. But I dont really believe your version and I don't like the tempo. I think Rufus' voice and style just must suit this song.

No fault of you though, you're very talented.

  • wow, the great songwriting of rufus with a voice i can actually handle for long periods of time. perfect.

  • Haha! You get lol points.

    Thanks.

  • Chiunque tu sia... hai un grande talento e una voce piena di sfumature. Suoni la chitarra (e il piano...) divinamente. Questo video ha un qualcosa di bohémien o dégagé che lo rende unico. Complimenti!

  • if ever there was one cover of this song that was deserving, it's this one. Wow.

  • Thanks for listening, people.

Apologies for not replying to everyone individually, it would just feel too automated.

But your words really push me to keep performing...

    Grazie mille,

    m.

  • This was great!

If you ever feel like doing a cover of one of Rufus's guitar songs, might I suggest "In My Arms" because I think your voice would be perfect for it?

  • great cover. you're good.

  • Awesome!

  • wow this is a great take on this song, it's pretty much just as good haha, nice voice

  • Found this by accident! VVV GOOD.

  • WOW!! Great cover.

  • Yeah bro.

    Definite goosebumps.

    Great job.

  • I was gonna post a cover of this then I saw this and thought "Holy feckin' awesome". Truly innovative take of a diamond tune.

  • you made me come :P

    omg..

    I just love you

    your voice,

    your talent

    your style

    good lord... GOOSE bumps;p

  • Holy shit bro! u're pretty good, and u got a cool look like jose gonzalez, lol. great cover!!

  • Yay I finally found someone who likes Rufus AND Ani. You're amazing.

PS I think you'd do an AMAZING cover of "In My Arms" by Rufus. I'm just putting it out there;)

  • This is really terrific. I'm a big Rufus fan ,especially because his wonderfull different voice, but yours is one to match his. Gave me goose bumps and the lyrics still get to me. All the best and I hope Rufus got the vibes.

  • wow, very good. :D

  • Simply Amazing. Encore!

  • When I saw a screen shot of an acoustic guitar cover of Rufus's Art Teacher, I was skeptical.

    I bite my tongue.

A beautiful cover. I loved the horns. And while the difficult finger picking fell slack near the end, as complex and captivating as it was, your emotion and the raw evocative quality of your voice really shined.... shone? shinned?.... anyway, great job. And that last "cher" of "teacher" just kills me. Great job.

Now I'm repeating myself. Keep posting.

  • Thanks for listening so hard. I love it when people single out one minuscule atom of music which does it for them. It happens to me all the time.

Props on your A Cappella efforts! Great arrangements and soloists. I used to be in one of them myself (anonima armonisti).

    Cheers

  • I can't say I'm a big fan of RF *don't want to be a jinx*.. anyway.. this was great.. more than great - your singing style is very storyteller-like.. what I'm trying to say is.. I want to keep listening, which is why I shall subscribe. There you go, there's no excuse.. keep posting. Peace..

  • check me out trying to be all cool and all.. edit *RW.. Well done again. Good luck again..

  • your fucking awesom!!!!

    that's just hot

  • Meraviglioso! Halfadrop, sei assolutamente unico! More Rusfus covers please...Che voce!

  • man oh man, your doing ever cover better then the original artist, I listen to you, then go listen to the original on you tube, and you kick all their asses, lol, you got a solo acoustic gift like I have never heard before, good luck in this music biz, you got the gift, this is for sure... Peace, Doug

  • Damn bro', thank you. Honestly.

  • "He asked us what our favorite work of art was; never could I tell him it was him."

((Okay, Matan, I swear I will put an end to this stalkery now!))

  • My roommate and I love this. We think it's modest but very amazing finger picking and just .. awesome and interesting.

  • I usually reply to comments in my smart-ass, self-effacing persona. But the image of you two guys looking at this and agreeing on what to write as a comment is just so cool :) Grazie.

  • salut, a friend sent me this, i think it is wonderful. i like the timbre of your voice. it is unique. i also noticed that we bear an obnoxiously uncanny similarity in appearance. i am also a bearded, argyle-sweater-wearing man of ethnicity, toting a guitar. yeah. random and almost pointless comment but i thought i'd let you know.

  • Dude - you could be the alter ego I've been waiting for!

Link me to a pic of you. There are banks which need to be robbed.

Thanks for your kind words. And your friend for sending the link.

Everyone else - nejenomalas,ldb1985,oprahlovesgai, liszts : thank you from the bottom of my hollow heart.

  • You have an incredible voice... This song made me so happy to hear I really hope you continue to follow your passion I encourage you and I wish you the best.

  • This is really beautiful, its such an eerie version i love it!

  • Interesting version, I liked it

  • Halfadrop,

Don't get down. I think it sounds great. And I have to give you credit for making this song your own. As I'm sure you know, Rufus doesn't perform this some on guitar, but it's nice to know that it can be done really well acoustically. I wouldn't be surprised if you record an album in the future. Good luck and keep up the fantastic work!

  • Awesome, brother. don't feel depressed. 'twas good. perfection's over-rated anyway. life's too short. best of luck with the demo. consider this positive energy sent your way. shine on, Matan :)

  • Man, do I love your voice!! (and playing but i'm always more sensitive to the voice cause that's what's alive lol)Beautiful song. Good luck with the demo tape!Am sending him good vibes right now as well!

  • Gracias. But I'm listening to this again...and I'm fucking out of pitch in at least two places. It depresses me. If you need me I'll be in my room.

  • if that can reassure you, i am not happy with any of my videos! that's sad to be such a perfectionist for then you can never be happy!but i have a solution:if i get to pass the emotion, then i'm satisfied.check up the lyrics of an ani difranco song:"imperfectly".love it! keep up this excellent work halfdrop!

  • You know, you're in major key for like 60% of the song. Since you're doing it all on the guitar, I would suggest doing it all in a minor key since the song is rife with dark humor. I loved the beginning, though. Cool interpretation.

  • I don't quite get what you mean. It's not like you can turn a song on its head and play it in major or minor. This is in minor. The first chord is Fm9. The bridge is kinda in A. But, what the heck, thanks.
