This song brings me back to our ninth grade picnic in 1970. We went to a park and it rained all day. My friends Noreen and Donna and I took shelter in tthis little pavilion with some cute guys from who knows where?
I still think John Lennon liked the looks of John Sebastian with the glasses and started wearing them also. Just check out Hey Bulldog. They look like first cousin's twice removed.
(paraphrased) - "We were entertainers, not politicians!" ... John, on the peace movement... (but really.. they all were "peace activists," just some didn't recognize it, I guess :)
The Lovin' Spoonful had 4 musical geniuses. John Sebastian could play autoharp, Irish Harp (in the video), guitar, harmonica, and keyboards. Zal Yanovsky could play guitar and pedal steel guitar, as well as sing. Steve Boone was good on bass guitar, piano, keyboards, and guitar. He also sang on occasion. Joe Butler played drums and is an excellent singer (and father of Yancy Butler), and in the current incarnation of the Spoonful, plays autoharp and guitar.
Very beautiful song :) Any other Lovin' Spoonful/Doors fans who think that John Sebastian and Ray Manzarek could be twins? Hmmm
