  • were you ever on crossfire, the now defunct liberal vs. conservative show on cnn? you seem familiar to me, and the topics discussed were about atheism , theism , etc.

  • The problem with suggestion is the assumption that language is logical, a dangerously incorrect assumption and the origin of a great many errors of youtube atheists. Your logic might be sound, but many people confuse logical statements with facts and confuse linguistic "if thens" with logical ones.

Your Dad's suggestion is much better. Logic is an amazing thing if applied correctly.

  • if your just looking for a proof against god to throw at highschool kids look in Kant's metaphysics... best argument -- 'existence is not a predicate' -- but your going to have to think about it...Not as easy as merely throwing around a 'God is Dead'

Read lots of german rationalist philosophy -- and french structuralism....

  • Ideas are power -- people rule themselves and truth is tautological insofar as it is ideology exerting power ie no one needs to tell people not to commit incest or stop at red lights... ideology is 'what we are doing when we don't know we are doing it' ie what we take for granted as 'true' -- if the exception proves the rule then the rule with no exception is completely unconcsious..

  • "truth" can only occur as a social phenomena where it is possible ie. greece could do philosophy because it had slaves -- 1) if two people need to work to eat, the only way that one can eat and not work, is for the other to work twice as hard with no recompense 2) every assertion of a will throughout mans history leads to a conflict of interest -- this is inside economic/thought paradigms -- will lead to a resolve of conflict the outcome of which is a new assertion to be met and conflicted.

  • consulting a logic textbook for an answer against a religion is like a priest consulting the bible for strength against uncertainty in a world in which obviously no god exists...

Science becomes religion... If you really care about the structures of society and 'truth', I would recommend Foucault and anything under 'structuralism' also structural psychoanalysis and marxism... the history of man is a chain of associated ideas organized in principle of power exerted from one onto another...

  • I'll read them. I would like to apply logic to everyday things. I read a book called "Plato and a Platypus walk into a bar..." which had a section on logic. Ever since reading that I used different forms of logic daily. It's an interesting way of thought. You're right about what atheism seems to lead into (atleast in my case). I'm most anxious to start reading Witt. I want to finish some other books before him but it should be fun. Thanks for "Tractatus in full" Peace.

  • You just want to keep all the logic to yourself :-P

  • I did comment earlier but it didnt show up here.

Thanks for the information Greg, it's most helpful.

I will grab some Aristotle writtings from some place. I've been putting off the Greek philosophers as a kind of treat for myself while I plough through a stack of other books I need to complete.

  • My interest in logic was not ourely from an atheist point of view though I do find that an area of high interest - as you know.

I messaged your Dad's profile. I am looking forward to PM'ing him in the near future.

Thanks again for all of this, I appreciate it a lot.

  • You said "I dont know what book you'll see that in". Well, I think that is a cue for YOUR book.

It's about time you wrote one. I'd buy a copy.

  • The only thing preventing me from doing it is me, and the probability that it wouldn't be heard of. Neither is a good reason not to. It sounds egotistical, but I lean towards going for it. I am away for a few days, leaving soon. Cheers.

  • Ughh, the last note was cut off! And I played it myself. Shit. And I didn't even save this thinking it was done. Alas, I will not recreate this video for the lack of one note and you'll have to imagine it resolving on a solid E.
