One of my greatest wishes would be for people to stop reading too much into jokes made in comedies by saying things like..."This is quite clearly a reference on behalf of the writers towards the fact the Ealges sold out back in 1973 and their music is commercialized and not worth a damn!" I mean...no, it isn't, it's a joke, nothing more, nothing less. This isn't the writers proclaiming they hate the Eagles...its a joke. Now, for the love of everything, stop the nonsense.
As a dedicated fan of Eeagles, I'm so grateful with with this scene which made me fell down laughing. I believe the movie supports their songs. Many Eagles' songs such as Hotel California sang coldly about obvious failure of 60's hippy boom. Eagles' songs used here and the funniest appearance scene of Jesus with Gypsy Kings' cover of Hotel California implicates many still-remaining problems of US society and the writers' love to American people and culture with so crappy but still gentle jokes.

I saw this as well, and I was WTF, I love Jeff, and the Dude Does Abide, but what the Hell, he actually plays Country style music for real, and the Eagles are born and bred of singer/songwriter era, very similar. I'm sure it's meant as a joke in reality, the Eagles might object otherwise to letting the music be used in that case!
