Their dedication is comprabe to any Ferrari or Porsche factory. The only plastic you'll find on a Vette is the Polycarbonate rear bumper used to meet crash regualtions.

As for Toyota, they've only dropped the ball in the last 5 years because they were trying to become number one, whereas for the last 5 or so years ago, GM have realized how much they had dropped the ball and started concentrating on actually making cars, so they've sort of become the other in a way. Jeremy said he loved the vette in america, because he was driving it on wide open roads. The zr1 has a nice suspension and a lot of power on tap, in short it's the perfect supercar for america.
There is no doubt the ZR1 is a good, if not great piece of mechanical engineering. There is also some lateral thinking used to get the car so light and stiff with the use of plastics. As an old fashioned muscle car - super car of the 80s/90s, it scores a perfect 10/10.
But for the rest of the world, the concept of super-cars have moved on. Refinement is in, and sheer lunacy is the relegated to the modders. There lies the problems with the ZR1. Technically brilliant, but out of vogue & taste.

I love how people try to say how stupid Americans are. Who invented the atomic bomb? Can you even begin to comprehend the engineering, science, and mathematics required to do such a task? Where was Linus Pauling from? Or Richard Feynman? I can't wait to see the new dodge Vipers. Japanese cars are only good because they're cheap. Germans make the Japanese look like little kids playing in a sandbox. I'd take the R8 over the Corvette, mainly because I think it's a more beautiful car.

He's right as of Late the American brands have been rated and scored higher in all comprabe classes to the Japanese cars.
I/e the Ford Focus is rated over the Corrolla and Civic (Motortrend, C&D, KBB,)
Ford Fusion rated over the Camry and Accord (and it's throttle wont kill you)
Buick Lacrosse rated over Lexus and Infiniti
And Cadillac scored higher in quality tests against BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc...

As for Toyota, they've only dropped the ball in the last 5 years because they were trying to become number one, whereas for the last 5 or so years ago, GM have realized how much they had dropped the ball and started concentrating on actually making cars, so they've sort of become the other in a way. But I'm 100% confident that in 5 or so years time, Toyota will once again be the standard for reliability

I bought a Toyota Matrix in 2003 and have had a few problems. I NEVER said Jap cars are not reliable you moron. All I said was American cars have caught up and slightly passed Japan in quality. A Golf has the nicest interior but the rest of the performance doesn't meet my expectations. It doesn't perform as good as a Cobalt.

@GlascoIndustries You are obviously an idiot. The RX-8 is decent. But it makes 200hp less than a Corvette, is slower, gets worse gas mileage and pollutes more. The Corvette engine also lasts longer. It is also slower than the FR Camaro SS, Challenger and Mustang GT and FF Cobalt SS. All are cheaper and get better gas mileage too. And my girlfriends dad has been a Jap only car guy, thought American sucks and is shit just like you, but bought a Camaro SS and couldn't be happier.

@GlascoIndustries It isn't like I don't like the R8. I would prefer it over a Ferrari or Lamborghini. It beats them in speed and cost half as much and still has a good interior. I just prefer the ZR1 because it takes skill and learning to master it around a track. It will be more fun to track. And I buy a sports car for fun. I will also save $40k. I don't mind the plastic body, it is cheaper and weighs less than Aluminum, and I like the interior of the Vettes. But mainly FUN. RWD and manual.

@GlascoIndustries Why buy a $150k R8 if a $50 k track car would beat it? An Evo is so far behind a ZR1. It would take $100k to get an Ezo to go as fasat as a ZR1. And when you do it will be uncomfortable and very unreliable. The ZR1 is a fast as hell ROAD car, meaning it rides smoothly with a great road engine. It turns into a beast on the track. Also a stock Chevy Cobalt SS is as fast as a stock Evo. And you obviously haven't driven an American car since the 80s. Quality matches Europe.

ok seriosly, they tested the zo6 and it did it in 1:22.6. thats only 2.2 seconds slower despite haveing a heavier car, 130 less horsepower and something like 125 ft/lbs less of torque, than the Zr1 and all that comes down to 2 seconds?

There is no doubt the ZR1 is a good, if not great piece of mechanical engineering. There is also some lateral thinking used to get the car so light and stiff with the use of plastics. As an old fashioned muscle car - super car of the 80s/90s, it scores a perfect 10/10.
But for the rest of the world, the concept of super-cars have moved on. Refinement is in, and sheer lunacy is the relegated to the modders. There lies the problems with the ZR1. Technically brilliant, but out of vogue & taste.

Just look at how he was driving it when he was chasing the R10, he wasn't trying to keep up, he was sliding the tail our on purpose. Look at when the stig was driving it, it was more composed than even the R10. He would do anything to make a vette look bad, but in any racing class they are in, they dominate.

@InitialDAmine Some lower HP and torque cars are more easy to handle on a little track. The fact that the GT3 is faster at Hockeneim ONLY demonstrate that on this track it's fatser. But, put it on others types of tracks and maybe the Vette will be much more faster. Clarkson is a idiot ( it's not because you can handle The ZR1 that it less good that the R8). Respect ;)

@bibi1918 Unless you are a pro driver you can't push a car like the ZR1 to it limites while on the other hand, a car like the R8 you can easly get a lot of fun, but that is not only what a car is about, here i m not discussing the fact that the ZR1 is faster than the R8 that is normal , the ZR1 is faster, but the R8 is fast a car, but do everything else a car should do better than the R8, the ride , the efficiency, the quality built ect..and that is why the R8 is a better car...

@InitialDAmine And I agree with you on this. But I can understand people who said shits on the ZR1. Yeah it's not luxury as many of the german sport cars, but who care, is a Chevrolet ! Rejoice for once that this compagny build a true competitive american sport car. The plastic maybe lot cheaper, but the overall quality is STILL decent. Respect ;)

@bibi1918 How is the quality decent? In 4 days of driving a ZR1, the trunk lock stopped working, the plastic was shameless, the keyless system didn't function right, and on day 4, the ZR1 wouldn't start.

@xfistsclenchedx It's funny how people put a case and make it a general fact. Listen, my brother own a old C5 and my rich neighbour own a new C6 Z06 and they don't have any quality problem at all. Go see people who take care of their Vette and most of the time it's heaven. If you see someone you have a problem with his new Porsche will you say that this brand is a shit ? Probably not. Don't capitalize on a bad luck. Respect ;)
