BUT well, id try NOT to be under trees during this. they can blow down, and ruin your day or lightning can strike them. course you know this, im just saying. from experience
@tropicalchaser Yeah like I was saying to someone in another comment.. I based the 130km/h estimate on a gust measured by a weather station nearby. Lots of trees were flattened nearby so I kinda figure there must have been some higher gusts around the place!
Awesome wind speed! these gusts must be around 160-170km/h! love it!!! because we have very strong wind storms in Rawalpindi area due to its location and i have seen winds just like these when a weather station recorded gusts upto 169km/h! you must confirm the wind speed (:
Well done ... a nice job of (almost) holding the cam steady ... I know it's difficult to do because I can't do it most of the time ... the excitement causes you to want to video everything and a moving cam spoils the value of the footage ... anyway ... I said you did a good job ... those winds had to be gusting to 70+ MPH at times ... I spend far too much of my life in Oklahoma and I have seen an uncountable number of storms like that.
Sorry, but I think those winds are much more than 130 km/h, if you compare to Hurricanes or Typhoon winds (generally, tropical cyclones winds) at peak they seems to be well above CAT 1 winds.
@tysimon Yeah you might be right. There was a weather station nearby that recorded a 130km/h gust but i was on top of a hill so it's quite possible that the wind gusts were stronger.
@yamahonkawazuki I just based the 130km/h winds on the nearest weather station which recorded a 130km/h gust. The fact that I was on top of a hill getting blasted my microburst winds means they could well have been much higher, but I can't be sure since I didn't have any equipment to measure them tho' :(
@Hinezy77 well whatever speed it was, 130kp/h or higher. fact is it was blowing HARD Eh? lol. had to have been an experience. im one of those crazy yanks who likes to approach, not flee tornados. and have plans to experience a hurricane lol
Yep we were in my van. I knew the storm was going to be pretty bad and we were driving around frantically trying to find an area that was away from all the trees.
For some reason it seemed to make sense to go up the top of a steep hill because it was the only area that didn't have lots of trees but it turned out it was the area with the strongest winds! Catch 22 i guess.
Thanks.. We do get our fair share of supercells over in parts of Australia.. especially on the east coast during Spring. I've seen some of your videos on youtube in the past! Your hurricane videos are fantastic!
That is CRAZY! I've never seen wind like that ... hope you were in a car or strong shelter. The windiest, rainiest, lightning-iest I've ever seen - and I thought Southern Plains storms were fierce! Wow. Adding to favorites, 5/5 stars!
Looks like 60 mph.

@Hinezy77 From doppler radar readings on the day, the peak gust at The Gap was 186km/h IIRC.

Yes, the higher altitude is always the worst. Glad you guys were safe. Flying debris is the most dangerous part in a storm like this.

I'd say the wind was easily more than 100 km/hr! I live on the East Coast of Canada, and we sometimes get nasty storms.

Was working the farm just out of Stanthorpe and watched each one brew up. We knew they would be something wild.
