Sadly? Mega Man is a neat name! So is Proto Man. The fact that there's a difference in names between cultures only bolsters the richness and variety of the franchise. Concepts like Mega Man Universe (however ill-fated) couldn't be if the franchise had been stoically uniform.

A thriving Metropolis is being terrorised by a Mad Scientist and his robots who want to take over the airport and trash it while doing so, meanwhile a robotic boy accompanied by a robotic girl who's obviously made for him, are with their creator who prepare to battle this antagonist. so he rushes off slamming a radioactive neon green energy drink and uses his transformer dog as a jet scooter. This is going to be interesting..@_@

If I recall, he was changed to green to differentiate him from Rush. Most, if not all, of the changes done to this version of Mega Man were due to the original, Japanese designs not testing well with the current American demographic at the time.
