I'm talking about these girls who starve themselves to fit society's twisted ideas on what a woman is, hence making themselves very unheathy in the process. Women are built to be all shapes and sizes as long as they look after themselves and have healthy self image, thats all that counts. @Hunny1au: Back in the old days, women have gorgeous slim figure. That's why their clothes fit better. They took good care of their appearance. So they look high class. Who wants to see a fat woman dancing? It's not attractive. It's like seeing a bloated whale. Does Marilyn Monroe look like she's starving? She looks healthy in the movie. Her body is proportionate and perfect. No bones sticking out.

Now, why would I want to flatten myself out?!" I sure she sometimes wore a waist-cincer, but nothing to hide the stomach or control the ass. She enjoyed being a woman.

The stiff big bras, etc. Marilyn hated that, and in some of her later films, you can see is is totally without undergarments. But she is quite slender in "Blondes" so I don't think--aside from a bra--that she wore much to "pull" her in. But...I wasn't there, so...

I am healthy according to my doctors, some of us are naturally thin and have high metabolisms, just because I am thin doesn't mean I am less then woman. @Hunny1au you are also doing the same thing the media is doing, which is to create an "ideal" image of how a "normal" woman should really be. What is normal? Some women are born curvey, some thinner. What makes you so certain a bulkier woman is healthier than a skinny woman? Have you seen female atheletes? I'm pretty sure they are not unhealthy just because they are skinny. Instead of saying what a "real" woman should look like, how about acknowledging that there is diversity in body shapes?

I just wish that it didn't cut off in the biggest production number in the flick.

Oh, and yes, they manipulate the sizes to control the market --- why else do you think that a "Size ZERO" exists? Aside from coked-out starlets & the bizarrely-elfin types, I mean. A "ladies'" size is now a "misses," a "misses" is now a "junior," etc.

But it is nice to look back at women like Jane, Marilyn and Rosalind Russell, etc., and remember when women were WOMEN, y'know? I agree on the dimming of our stars over the years in regards to talent -- although, you have to admit, some of it is due to a change in casting priorities and a dearth of good roles written these days. However, no one in this movie looks anything like a US 14. I'm a 10/11, and it's pretty obvious that these women are both way, way smaller than me. Her famous measurements are way closer to a modern 6/8 than a 14. The notoriously voluptuous Mae West would be way too small for 14 at her heaviest.
