I should also mention, more field corn (for livestock, not humans, I apologize for that error--it's still being consumed nonetheless) being planted displaces other crops & artificially inflates (due to the ethanol mandate) the demand for field corn. That means less corn for human consumption & other crops for human consumption. This also means some farmers will do less crop rotations, there's a reason farmers rotate beans & corn planting every other year.
This is another political baseball that keeps on getting batted around,year after year..The BS is like the Energizer bunny and Obamacare,it keeps on going and going.From all the reports I have seen,bottom line,Ethanol is not feasible.One reason, among many, it would be cost prohibitive to produce.Also it would raise the cost of corn,so it will cost us more to consume or feed to farm animals. I study the latest info on ethanol every day. look at my user name. ethanol may not be perfect but it isn't as bad as you make it out to be. and a 15% blend would run just fine in an 80s Chevy Malibu. I run a 30% blend in an old lawn mower for years now and 50% in my car for 55000 miles no problem at all. Hell a 30% is even in my 2007 jet ski. I have yet to find one thing i can't run 30% in.

@UTubekookdetector your right i assumed your references were old, I have found new references myself indicating you to be wright. but i think your are wright only about some of the methods of production. even if we disagree on the importance of ethanol i am glad we agree that it should not be subsidized by tax paying citizens that don't want it. I would like to see the government drop all help and just see what happens. I want to no if E85 is as good as i think or hear because of subsidies.
The people peddling Ethanol for the most part are neither truly environmentalists nor conservationists, they are Marxists disguised as such with the sole idea of using environmentalism as an excuse to broaden the government sphere of influence to levels never dreamed before and thus bring about finally their dreams of a worldwide Marxist utopia.
