This song still pops into my head. I remember when I was like 8 or 9.. Watching my babysitter's son play this game. He was like 17, or something. Anyway, I didn't understand the game, and stuff, and this song makes me feel confused, and lost. In the darkness. I miss Age of Empires. The new online one isn't all that great. It's not the same.. I need to find where I can get this soundtrack. :)

@TheTitan606 im playing the gold version in windows 7 64 bits, no problems. also playing aoe 2, but the water and grass look funny, the game is the same though. use internet play to set 200 population in aoe 1, its better to play deadmatch, otherwise is boring. too bad age 3 is a huge crap

Damn I remember the demo to the original game. Build up your blue base, and sail to the other side of the map and beat up a bunch of red people.

If you were a badass you would chop down the forrest on the strip of land that connected the two islands. Damn good times.

I first heard this song watching a friend play the demo to this game. I believe that this song is absolutely perfect fitting for the scenario. A nomadic village in an unknown world, using crude tools and weapons to adapt to their surroundings. Throwing spears at elephants.. Scroll away and they're all dead! Except the elephant. Good times. :)

I hope the next AOE is a remake of AOE1 + ROR, set in antiquity again (from 2000BC to 0AD) with Egypt, Greece, Rome, Babylon, etc.

There was more varied and interesting architectural styles back then (each civ seemed different) rather than having the same variation on Western buildings as seen in AOE2 + 3. Babylon with mud-brick Ziggurats, Greece with columned marble, Egypt's blocky buildings, you could tell what civ someone was playing just at a glance.

@3oMethylmorphine Sadly, the series is likely over (RIP Ensemble). I would want remakes of the first two with a few of the new features too. However, Microsoft Games is developing a free, persistent world AOE (Age of Empires Online). I don't expect it to be anywhere near as good, but I will play it, and then post on the forums for several hours about how they raped my childhood or about how wonderful it is.

The graphics are too cartoonish for my taste.

I request people not to compare it with C&C and say AOE is better or worse.

@008abdullah It is with great sorrow that I say that there will not be another sequel. The studio closed in 2009, right after the release of their last game, Halo Wars. However, Age of Empires Online is in development by the distributor's (Microsoft) in-house studio.

This is the music from AoE alright, however it is not of the original.

The original game (when it was released) had imho a better sounding track, with the first song called "A Fresh Start", which began with a realistic holy chant of some sort.

The music will change slightly depending on which version of Windows you run the game in. The game music is completely MIDI and all the different versions of Windows has different sets of MIDI tones. On Windows ME for example, this will sound completely terrible.

They did, but... a month back, I read a little snippet of news that Microsoft is "re-investing" into the PC market. I also read they are working on a "Age of Empires Online" game... sort of like an MMO, I think? I don't know if they reopened Ensemble Studios... probably another developer.

I get such an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia whenever I hear these tunes. This game shaped my childhood... I remember going to my friend's house at age 8 who had a really powerful computer at the time, and we used to sit next to each other and play this for hours and hours on end.
