@realmrlolz they have people who handle those affairs to distance the editors from marketing or the developer, so that their views and opinions aren't skewed. GameSpot didn't at the time, and fired Greg due to Eidos heavily marketing kayne and lynch and the uppers care fore his negative view on product they were trying to sell. I have been at IGN and asked a lot of questions, this was around the time of that incident and I have no doubts as far as their integrity when it comes to a review.

@BrianJensen The only thing stupid about Game spot is their perfect scores. But IGN is 1000 times less trustworthy.. They are owned by Rupert Murdoch's Newscorp company, and we all know Murdoch's love for bribes and propaganda. Rupert Murdoch only sold Rotten tomatoes because he found he couldn't influence the tomatometer. If you want to honestly have an accurate review then rent the game for 24hours because corporate backroom deals are rife when big money is involved.

Is it because it doesn't match up to your standards of whats fair? Its an opinion, its subjective, their job isn't to validate your purchase its to give their opinion that can assist you in making your game purchase, like a friend, but on a professional review.
