They also compress the audio, and if the signal appears to be "too quiet" for the algorithm, it will be changed dynamically

(dynamic volume processing).

Do you Normalize or hard limit your songs before uploading?

Thanks for telling me. I'm not really changing anything else before i upload. I use some compressors myself, when making a track, you think that might be the reason?

And by the way this is an old one, and it's a long time ago it did this on my tracks, so it might have been a problem, which i used to cause, but at least i'm not doing it anymore.

Well, it depends on the attack/release-time, which You use for the compressors.

Normally, they even should prevent this effect.

Before I integrate a finished song into a video, I check the .WAV or .MP3-file with a Wave-Editor, like CoolEdit or Audacity for peaks.

If the whole song has almost a constant volume, just Normalizing to -1dB does a good job.

If the song has some very loud peaks, but the rest of the song is quiet, Normalizing doesn´t work, then Hard Limiting is needed.
