  • Wait, so will that big converter box just be hanging on the side of or in the glove box? Or is there somewhere you could store it behind the dashboard? Also, I assume either way that the glove box is able to be closed and the wire can still be out where you can use it right? I definitely don't want this thing if I have to have the glove box open to use it, or if the converter box can't be kept out of sight.

  • @KrewMusicStudios It is really up to your preference. You can store the box behind the stereo in the dashboard and just extend the cables inside the glove box, or you can keep the box in the glove box. and keep your connected devise there. You don't have to keep the glove box open for that.

  • Hey could anyone tell me if this works on a model that has the single stock cd-player instead of the 6 cd-changer?

  • @LedZeppelin07011 Yes that will work on the Single CD stereo. The CD changer is actually not needed - the stereo should be CD changer capable but the actual CD changer presence is not important.

  • So which grom model would you suggest for exact duplication of what appears in the video.... because my truck looks exactly like this one! thank you

  • @drugallacher86 You can get the GROM-AUX3 and add iPod cable. Check GROM Audio website, you can use the car selector on the home page. Thank you!

  • does this interface adapter work on my 2006 Tacoma and is it installed the same way and where can i get it?

  • @Mr1979Ozman ello. Yes it does work the same way. The model on the video (GROM-IPD2) is not available anymore but we have some other models (GROM-IPD3, GROM-USB2, GROM-AUX3) available on the gromaudio website

  • Will I be able to play Pandora or other web-streamed media (via iPhone) through this GROM interface too?

  • @built4u2 Yes you will be able to do that. In fact - there is currently GROM-IPD3 available, that is also Bluetooth capable ( with GROM Bluetooth Dongle) - so you can stream the music wireless and control it with the stereo controls. In addition with GROM Bluetooth Dongle you are able to make and receive hands free phone calls.

  • now how about a amp and subs, would i have to get a new head unit, or would it work on a stock cd player and all

  • @renster143 It will work on the stock CD player.

  • My 2005 Taco doesn't have the decorative covers on either side of the stereo. How best to remove the climate controls in my case? Thanks!

  • Will this work on my 2008 Tacoma WITH the JBL system?

  • @jeremygoyette76 Yes it will work!

  • So, after installing the aux for iPod, will the CD drive still work?

  • will this work for a 2011 mustang?

  • i have a tacoma 2008 will it be the same ?

  • @mianotti Yes, it will work the same

  • i have a 2006 mazda 3 without a factory installed cd changer...will the mazda 02-08 device work?

and is it capable of using both an ipod cable when using an ipod and 3.5 headset cable when uding an mp3 player?

    thanks

  • @guitarshredda2 Yes the GROM-I3-MAZ will work for you. You will have 2 ports. iPod and AUX.

  • Hey there!

I found item on ebay. You guys are in Garden Grove!...Awesome! Im in Buena Park.

My question to you is, The item item I found on ur site and on ebay only mentions Toyota/Lexus adapter, but does not say what model and year. I have a tacoma prerunner 2008. will this work for me. I did see ur site which is awesome. There are dozens and dozens of adapters that mention MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR, but this one doesnt. Let me know guys

    Thank a bunch

    Henry

  • @5150VH Any Toyota device will work for your application. Just make sure to get one which claim cars from 2005+.

  • Do you still have use of your CD player?

  • @lilcrewes Yes built in CD is still functional

  • @gromaudio naturally you understand how this works better than I, so i have some blunt questions. will you be able to control the ipod from the control knobs on the factory unit? and if so, what about your product is different from the others in regards to how the cd player still works?

  • @jgwheeler17 Yes you can control iPod from you stereo buttons. CD player keep working the same as without our device.

  • dallas 4pm.... awesome....

  • can i get an ipod connector from best buy and still do these steps?

  • Comment removed

  • where can i get that ipod interface adapters?

  • @youschanten Just got to gromaudio com website for all options we have

  • does this work with a 2002 dodge dakota and can u navigate through songs without touching the car stereo

  • can you do this in a new yaris?

have it ordered and its being delivered in october, but im definately going to need a way of connecting my ipod, would i be able to do this?

also where will i get whatever it is that you are plugging into the back of the radio?

    thanks

  • @chazmichaelmichaels9 It should work. We tested on 2010 Yaris and no problems. It plugs at the back of the radio.

  • thanks a lot for this video bro! one question, i am little confused and the ipod switch settings! can you help? i have the DICE ipos kit for my 08 Tacoma. thanks

  • Yet I do not see the Tacoma being an option in 2006 or 2007.... Odd

  • I'm curious if this would let me use my IPhone as a speakerphone while i drive aswell? That would be a definate buy if it does.

  • @Davtopgun Unfortunately iPhone will not pass call to the speakers through the dock port. Our new Bluetooth solution will allow it.

  • Nice. Piece o cake. Works perfectly in 07 DC PreRunner, no JBL or XM.

  • Just installed the Grom interface into my Tacoma and I LOVE IT! Slacker/Pandora along with iPhone navigation apps work over the system and honestly sound better than the aftermarket XM receiver with external amp that was in my truck before. I went back to stock headunit with the Grom interface and am so glad I did. Sound quality is VERY good. Getting a Kuda mount and Dice pass-through cradle for iPhone to complete the install. Thanks for the awesome product.

  • One more question..will this let me play Pandora and Slacker radio through my iPhone to my speakers?

  • @dkelly41 Yes you will be able to use Pandora/Slacker in Simple mode. It will work with your stereo :)

  • My 2007 Tacoma Radio looks the same, but doesn't have the 6-disc changer. Will this still work? This is EXACTLY what I want for my truck!

  • What type of radio/cd changer will fit into a toyota tacoma (08). The factory radio sucks. I would like to upgrade.

  • @JakeMC204 Any radio will fit, you will need Metra panel though. Check forums and Metra web site

  • works like a champ! easier that it looks, even.

  • @geck0960 I guess gromaudio com :)

  • Is text supported on 2010 Tacomas?

  • @lxxdakinexxl es it should be. But only for USB/iPod adapters. Not iPod only ones :(

  • Compatible with iPhone as well?

  • @wguy001 Yep

  • After installing. How do i browse through my Artists??

will this also fit an 05 Toyota Camry?

  • @hxcmexi We do not support it. Only by playlists

  • What would be the best way to get AC controls out if a air bag cut off switch is located on the right cover? Do you think I would be able to pull the AC controls out from one side?

  • @AsphaltCowboy57 Simply pull the AC controls with hook or by hands

  • Will the CD player still be able to work when ipod is not is use?

  • @AsphaltCowboy57 Yes it will continue to work. Just press DISC twice

  • I am having trouble removing the decorative covers on my 08 Tacoma...?

  • This is a very helpful video. Worked great for my 2008 as well...

  • Hey thanks for posting this! I watched it several times as I installed my GROM-I2-TOY in my 2008 tacoma...

    One question... does GROM-I2-TOY support text information? eg. artist and song names? Cause Im not seeing anything... ={

  • @TheRealMagicDave Sorry, text is not supported on iPod units. Only on USB/iPod ones.

  • btw, my 05 toyota tacoma is a single CD player. no 6disc CD changer.

also, when I looked at the back of my stereo, there was only one opening. is this where I stick it in?

  • Correct. Just go to our web site and select your car for all choices we have: gromaudio com

  • i have an 05 toyota tacoma.

    i have to buy a grom-a-toy?

    btw, awesome tutorial.

  • So wher to we get that wire that conect to Ipod?

  • @pakho04 Check our web site gromaudio com

  • i have a tacoma 05 with the same stereo unit will thiswork? and where did u get the sync cable to adapt behind the unit?

  • @minskin22 Yes it will work the same. Check our web site gromaudio com

  • Thank you very much, I was hoping to know how to do that and now I found it accidently. Thanks

  • So when its all finished does the glove box have to be opened to have access to the ipod? and does the grom just sit in the glove box?

  • @joeamarq You can leave GROM box in the glove box or behind the radio. Your choice. Cables long enough to have either.

  • Installed mine in about 30 mins, this video helped a lot!

  • Awesome work! Will this work with the Ipod Touch as well? I've got an 07 Tacoma.

  • Yes it will no problem :)

  • GOOD JOB!!!!

  • so once you install this do you end up losing your actual cd player?

  • Everything remain working. It will be recognized as extra CD changer

  • Where do I get the harness/interface?

  • Check our store gromaudio.cоm

  • So even if the ipod is plugged in through the "ipod" specific jack(not 3.5mm) I can still choose what playlists/artists I wish from the ipod then use the steering interface to change song up or down once in the playlist is selected. The need for steering controls is great but why pay more if i would ultimately need to use the ipod to navigate anyway, so I would use the 3.5mm jack instead. Am i correct? Thanks for the response. Your products are far superior i am just a picky consumer.

  • You can also choose playlists using disk buttons on your stereo. You will need to predefine 5 playlists on your Tacoma stereo and navigate between them as if you will navigate between CD changer disks.

  • grom,

curious of the interface capability of the ipod and stereo. Can I search to play certain artists or playlists. I have steering controls as well. Is it simply recognizing it as a usb like drive or can I choose artists or playlists thourgh dash or steering controls. Other products I have used only recognize mp3 music not aac or other formats and do not allow me to choose my desired artist.(this must be done before pluging in) What does this system do? Thanks

  • Our ipod only device does not allow for text or search. You can search directly from iPod though. USB device has text / folder navigation. We recommend grouping into playlists and directories for faster navigation.

  • Thanks for the video it was slot of help

  • hey, i bought the cables and installed it into my 2008 toyota tacoma. it works perfectly, but after i installed it, the radio doesn't work anymore. help me please

  • You mean no reception ? Looks like radio antenna fell off :) Just plug it back.

  • i have an 05 taco with a 6 disk changer. will this work?

  • Yes, it will work.

  • OMFG!, THANK YOU!

  • I have a '05 tacoma (new model) with the standard radio... do you think it will fit the adapter on my radio???

  • Yes, it will fit.

  • Just press DISC button as shown in the vid :)

  • If no place for the third connection, leave it. No need to connect

  • haha, nice work doing it one handed :-D

  • Hey...I just got my Grom today and it was sooo easy to install...and it works great! AWESOME product! I have one question. I just tucked the device behind my stereo..will it get too hot back there? Thanks again!

  • Device will be fine. It consumes very little current, so I never saw it being hot.

  • Just recently my Grom stopped working. I've checked all the connections, I've tried other iPods...nothing. The disc player doesn't recognize the Ipod.....please help. I bought the TOYI2 about a year ago.

  • @johnsoncj2002 Please contact our tech support for help/troubleshooting guide. Fill out the form on gromaudio com / support

  • Hey does this work even without an AM/Sat mode. My 2007 Tacoma does not have a Sat mode and it looks like the one in this video does not either. Please clarify that the 6-disc changer (CD Player) will work after installation too. Thank you!

  • Yes our device emulate CD changer so if you see DISC button, it will work fine. 6CD will remain working

  • how do i do this if my left decoritive cover beside the radio is my 4x4 switch??

  • Just remove one and pull the AC controls out...

  • thanks

  • hey just recently bought this for my 2005 tacoma, install was very easy and quick.... However!! the controls to change tracks both on the deck and on the steering wheel don't work anymore. In the video you're able to change tracks on the ipod with the stock controls correct???? HELP

  • Mine only seems to work if the key is inserted and turned to where only the radio is functional. If the engine is actually running, it stops working...

  • i have a q? where did u buy that wiring for u i pod i need 1 please. thanks

  • Just followed this video for installing my gromaudio... took about 20 minutes total. So far so good.. accidently unplugged the antenna when i took out the radio..so make sure you don't do that..or if you do..make sure its back in before you put everything back together :)

  • Hey I would like to know were did you buy the device that goes behind the radio??.....

  • Try our website gromaudio com

  • nice vid , ill have to pass this along to my tacoma buddies, been thinkn about doin this for my tundra even though it has an ipod jack on the front of the deck

  • What is that thing that you bough? Were did you get it? How much is it? Does that work for an 06 tacoma?

  • i have an 07 tacoma with single disc, how will the functions work(buttons) without having a 6 disc.??

  • There will be menu appearing when the GROM device is connected. Just press DISC button and you'll see it.

  • Great product that was very easy to install. It was harder than the video showed to get the A/C unit out, but other than that the video is very accurate. I highly recommend this product and the self install is the way to go. The CD player does work if you disconnect the iPod, so this is the best of both worlds.

  • how is the audio quality if i were to do this? I assume it would be good, im just somewhat of a audiophile.

thanks for putting the video also!

  • Audio quality is CD (if you have proper bitrate though)

  • The built-in CD player ( or even CD changer) will remain working, external will have to be disconnected.

    Single CD will still work.

  • when you connect this you cant use the cd mode anymore it would have to be replace with the ipod now so if i want to listen a a cd o wont be able to do so right or wrong

  • RIGHT ON! Thanks for looking out.

  • Hey men, what's the name of the song¿? please.

  • quick question the wire harness comes with 3 connections 1:22 when you installed the 1st connection at 1:30 what happened to the other end??? you just leave it??

  • Yes if your car does not have extension port occupied you just leave it

  • where did you buy that ipod cable? you made me want to get it because you made the install look so easy, and because i have the fm transmitter.. it works on stock, right?

  • where did you get the wire from the i pod plugs into? I need one!

  • Make sure you have hardwired one. Air FM is pretty bad quality...

  • I have a '05 Tacoma, will this work?

  • Yes it will work.

  • Anyone done this with an 08?

  • I think there were no changes, so it should work the same.

  • brilliant!

  • This video inspired me to tackle this install myself. I bought the interface from Grom Audio - good price compare to others. Just a couple of notes - the vehicle specific cable that comes with the unit could be a little longer. I found that I did not have to remove the decorative panels under the air vents. The air conditioning controls pop out very easily with a plastic putty knife. And I would route the cable before plugging it in, you'll save yourself time and frustration. Buy it - do it

  • where do you get the cables and wires needed for the instillation? What is the equipment i need?

  • Will it work with the 4x4 since the 4x4 control switch sits in the left decorative cover next to the radio/AC controls? If so, how do you remove th 4x4 switch/decorative cover?

  • Yeah, I would try to push AC from one side and carefully pull it out. Should be easy.

  • Fantastic! It seems simple.

I'm just a little stunned by the interrior's easy disassembly....it's like Lego...just snap them off and on.

    Thanks for the video.

  • will it work with the 4x4, cuz of the switch?

  • Yes, it will work

  • I have a 05 Sequoia with the Nav/ JBL radio will this adapter work with my radio? Is there a difference between the two adapters other than just the ipod?

    ThaNKS

  • will this work with a 2005 tacoma?

  • Yes, it will work.

    Thank you.

  • theres a better way to have that without having taht cable run throught ur glove box. oh well this is aight

  • Sure there are ways. Are you talking about lower tray connection ?

  • I have a few questions. Where do I get that cable that you hooked up to the back of your stereo? Can I also do this on a 2008? And what was that box that was in the glove box? Thanks.

  • thats an awesome video thank you for sharing

  • what type or brand of ipod kit cable is that i want to get that because i was using wireless FM transmitor that griffin is sucks.

  • We do have our own devices. Check out gromaudio website

  • Yeah, we have different cables to fit any device. And the same installation steps will apply ;

  • Can that work with any AUX (for example MP3 players and portable DVD players)or just with ipod's ?
