I am a Massage therapist with a PD patient who has just started this program and has felt significant results. I have seen the difference in the tonicity of her muscles and am so excited to hear about these techniques that I will be sharing this with my Massage Students at the college. It is inspiring to see effective therapy for this frustrating disease. I am motivated to learn more so I can educate more!! thank you all for sharing your comments.
You are absolutely right. What a PD person percives as big movements may not be very big at all, like with their voice. LSVT BIG is supposed to help you maintain the speed and amplitude of your movements, and also make you more aware of the slow, negative changes in how you move. You train to do the opposite of what your body wants.
Am I right in thinking that this is a modified, whole body version of Lee Silver-Mann voice Therapy? I am a speech and language therapist in Ireland and have not come across this LSVT BIG before. I have a group of people with PD who have found LSVT very beneficial. Initially they found it very difficult to believe me that what they thought was LOUD was not loud. This programme is AMAZING!
Thank you for making this video. I have asked my neuro twice about this program, and both times he has said, you don't need it, YET. Next visit, I am going to TELL him that I want to go. I deal with my PD thru laughter.
Im a PT myself.I think LSVT big is a great exercise for Parkinsons disease. Thank you for sharing. Youre encouraging other patients to fight a good fight. And I salute you for that! :-)
I have just finished lsvt big and I am amazed at my progress. I can climb stairs, walk without fumbling along. It's amazing. I can not praise this therapy enough. Thank you! Nancy
Wonderful video. Thank-you for posting. I will show this to my dad who has Parkinson's Disease. I'm hoping this will inspire him to try this form of exercise.
Thank you Anders, this was very inspiring! I have had Parkinson´s since 2005, (diagnosed that year, but felt something was wrong as early as 2002). I am still quite young and have few obvious symptoms campared to many others I have met. I hope to start working with this program soon. Any good advice who to contact or how to start? Reidar S
Firstly I have to say that it’s very saddening news to hear that you have got this decease. Despite that, I find it extremely encouraging to see and hear that you have so much fight in you. Even after having discovered that you have Parkinson’s, you still manage to see the positive things in life, and you take time to make this very inspirational film showing other people that there are ways to cope with the decease. You are truely my inspiration :)
