Not only does the engine being warm matters, it also matters that the engine idles for atleast 30 seconds to a minute before revving. The top of the crankcase and the linkage between the piston rods and crankshaft also needs to be fully lubricated to prevent future damage.

@dancinggorilla7 if the engine doesnt run, the oil will flow down in the oil sump again. for the oil to distribute through the engine again you'd have to let the car run for at least a minute or so. so if you start the car up and then immediately floor it (like this guy does), there is no lubrication for the engine, which is very bad for the engine
