It's true Danzo and the elders could have handled it differently and that's their own fault. Danzo for all his flaws and misguided judgement acted in Konoha's best interest. Better kill a single clan, instead of having hundreds of deaths because of simple greed.

@MsConverselover Well, it was also very unfair of him to order a single man to kill everybody he loved. Itachi had to kill his mother and father, uncles and aunts... Danzo could at least have spared him from the task of killing them. I understand he wanted the best for Konoha, but to order someone to kill their whole clan... that's just awful. There's no wonder Sasuke got crazy and obsessed with revenge
