The differnce is that up here, they get arrested, their vehicles are impounded, licences revoked, and thousands of dollars in fines. The way it should be.

For a start they using shotguns not air rifles. The ducks being shot on the water are already wounded and are being finished off.

Some ignorance shown in some of these comments. Ducks are not the fluffy cute things that you thinks but spread selmonella to livestock , eat young crop seedings ruining crops etc. Hence why the New Zealand government allows such practice for a limited duration during the year. Come out and deal with the conquences of what ducks do before you get on your high horse

Please, hunting is a good way to control populations of animals, but trying to make ducks out to be major pests is out of line. These bastards probably are only hunting to kill and not for food. Learn to shoot properly boys and hunt responsibly.

I lost 4 livestock to selmonella caused by ducks shitting in water troughs. Thats $1500 a animal (milking cows) as well as the cost of vets and pencillian to get on top of the problem. Far as Im concerned blast away.
