Funny how they put two enemies to do this together. I wish Schillinger had done it with some black character, like Said, though. That would've been epic :)
@QuangDuckTheGook heh, no the, Dancing in the Street, music video by David Bowie and Mick Jagger, THAT! was the epitome of gayness, god that was gayness on a whole new level, there are gay people who would condemn that for being so gay.
Best television show of all time. Critics love to say it wasn't realistic enough, but it never tried to be realistic, ever. The themes and thoughts provoked however are more "real" than The Wire or the Sopranos could ever hope achieving.
This show was genius, and it took alot of balls to make and to watch.
@LorencHoxha Tch I've been there. That's not many shows that are realistic. Especially not Oz. There's a few realistic things, such as the gangs and drugs. Hate to burst your bubble, but Vern Shillinger would not be in the Aryan Brotherhood. They don't let in rapist, they mostly sell drugs, which he's against, and have almost no racial views. I guess the working out everyday was realistic though. And the feeling of isolation that it gave, but other than that it's really got nothing going for it.
@TheRationReviewer Vern didn't go to jail for raping someone, but he raped people inside OZ. And as I'm understanding from watching several prison movies; everyone in jail who has to stay a lot of years in prison becomes somehow a rapist and "gay". So that's not perceived as being "rapist" or "gay"....there is also one episode of Oz where they talk about this...He was racist against non-white people, but he became less racist because he was around black dudes for the all day..and survival factor
@LorencHoxha Once again, I've been there. I knew some guys who were in there for quite a few years (10+) and none of them where "gay". And the Aryan Brotherhood wouldn't let a rapist in even if he didn't go to prison for rape. And I've watched the series, every episode. I'm just telling you, it's NOT a lot like the real thing. Neither is the Shawshank Redemption for that matter, but I still love that movie.
Beecher and Schillinger's hatred for each other seems to transcend the continuity of the show. You can see little snarls they make during the song indicating they hate participating in this duet.
Oz has a reputation for being very gritty and grim, but the writers had SUCH a good, subtle sense of humor, that in at least this case was allowed to explode into the not-so-subtle. :)
@ganbattekyle totally... it isn't all about what can only be allowed on HBO. the story lines were awesome, in most cases, and the actors were FANTASTIC!
Yeah, this show was serious, but there are many more moments, besides this "musical interluded" episode, that are funny as all get out. The series was very well written and interwoven into the other stories that were going on.
