I would take it in a heartbeat! Firsty, even members of my own family holds my non-chosen homosexuality against me. Secondly, I would love to have children someday.
@marcelventer You can't have children if you are Gay!?! so sad. Also it is really sad that your family holds it against you, perhaps in time they will come around.
I respect your thoughts. I have one question though. Do you think that change is possible? I am attracted to men but I know that a homosexual life is not where I will be happiest.(this is partially from experience) If you want you change read more about my story at IDontHaveToBeGay@blogspot.com
I once heard some one say 95% of all guys masterbate- the other 5% lie and say that they don't. My guess is that the electrical aversion therapy success rate is the same. Me change ? NO ! I grew up in a Homophobic home and tried to be straight. I only ended up making myself and others miserable. Be true to your self and just be who you are.
Dave, you do a good job of taking swings at straw men. Society has an evolving understanding of homosexuality, as does the LDS Church. The gay Mormon element is stuck in a warp zone of outdated arguments with the ghosts of Christmas past, recycling grievances about aversion therapy and "The Miracle of Forgiveness." I would urge you to thoughtfully engage dialogically with those who are honest about their attraction to the same gender AND who are also committed to living the gospel joyfully.
OMG! Is electric shock aversion "therapy" really still available in the USA? I'm sure it was banned in Europe decades ago. Years ago left handed people could get "therapy" to become right-handed but they just ended up with bad handwriting. Michael Jackson appears to have attempted Color Therapy. There is no need for any of these therapies - people only try them because they have internalized society's hatred of minorities and so hate themselves.
the director of (some? all?) the excellent X-Men movies is gay. i loved how the whole x-men thing has underlying gay theme! i wish gays kids had a school like in the movie, where they could instead learn / love their human powers, strengths etc... allowing a stronger community. There are gay schools out there, im sure it's helps, would love to hear from some kids who go to them. peace.
Yeah I loved the scene in Xmen 2 when Bobby "came-out" to his parents and the reactions from the family were classic. thankfully there was no explosion after I came out lol.
If you acept that gays and straight people are equal in every way, which I do, then i would choose to be straight just because it has some real and pratical advantages. The chances of meeting someone and falling in love are higher for straights, the chances of finding a well suited partner are higher. Life is a numbers game in which us gays are at a slight disadvantage. But saying all that i do not think i would ever change such an important part of my personality, it would just be weird
NO. i am what i am. bein gay has made me a stronger, more compassionate, accepting, loving person than i would have been(FOR REAL). Mormans actions towards gays makes me sick! gay kids beware, your parents can commit you against ur will to these aversion therapy places, where they will drug you heavily, all day, do shock therapy & worse much like what happens in Latter days the movie. im sorry u had to go thru that pain, morman gay kids have it rough ;( please see my channel...
Sadly, yes the Mormon stance towards gays is disturbing, but it isn't all that different from many other religions, nor is it different for Gays as it is for other "sins." As for the commitment, yes sadly it can happen but without your consent, even underage, these "Alpine Clinics" will not give you shock therapy because of the fear of law suits. What happens in Latter Days is what was commonplace before, but since then it has become far less common, but still acceptable.
certainly no other religion in the US tries harder proactively way i.e. prop 8 for instance. As for commitment etc... You should know better than me, if the morman church (& parents) wants something clandestine 2 happen against gays in Utah, it does, period. mind games, torture, drugs, "therapy" experimentation all in name of religious control. countless aversion therapy victims speak of unspeakable things done to them, even in recent times. It needs to stop! peace.
Fine vid :-) Exceptional insight.. but, seems that the one conclusion to make in regards to this is --- > If it isnt broken, dont fix it.. and trust me, WE arent Broken, in any form of the word :-) Definitely do hope Spring Break was a marvelous one for yaz. Pleasure to find ya made it back and all :-)
True, it might not be broken but it might make life that much easier, but then you would have lost the ability to grow stronger from the experience of being gay.
To tell you the truth I don't really know what I would do until this was a real possibility. But I highly doubt that I would want to change that about myself. I've taken so long to accept myself, to be proud of who I am, so if such a "cure" was available I would most likely refuse it.
To be honest, I would take it without hesitation. It saves the constant conflicts and battles in both self perception and the perception of others, not to mention the need to reconcile societal and religious norms with ours. Whilst the acceptance of oneself can happen, it comes with the knowledge that life is just going to be that bit harder and the realization that things can never be conventional.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for acceptance and equality. Nothing is ever non-controversial. Homosexuality was only decriminalized not too long ago and remains criminal in some parts of the world. Granted variations exists. Inductive reasoning would normalize more variations. Where we put the cut off, I guess, depends on the further evolution of society free from the shackles of antiquated dogmas. Nice video. Your follow up is greatly anticipated.
if there was a shot...i would definitely take it...it goes to show u that i am hardwired this way...don't get me wrong i love myself and i know that i have plenty of advantages with being gay, but there are also huge disadvantages too...like hate from ignorant people. But i have many gifts that i feel like i was born with...this (being gay) to me is like a hinderence of me seriously like taking over the world.
Perhaps when I was younger, and hadn't thought it through, I would have taken it. Now, I'm secure with who I am. I know I'm not a pervert, or an abomination, as some would have me believe. I believe I am a child of God.. Would I try to change anything about me? No. I'm fine the way God made me.
I'm not homosexual but I'm a member of another reviled minority: atheists.
If one day they decided that atheism was a disease and somebody found a cure for it, would I take it?
No. It's part of what makes me, me.
In that regard it is on a par with homosexuality: if it's a "disease" it's a funny one since it's one that seems to bother OTHERS rather than yourself. And therein lies the answer.
If there was a cure for homophobia, should they take it?
i dissagree on one thing here, bein gay bothers most gays internally also. it's a terrible struggle for many, for some they never come to terms with it, for too many commit suicide, slowly self destruct etc... "if there was a cure for homophia should they take it" AWESOME POINT!
True, but only because so many outsiders put so much negative pressure on them. I would imagine that this would not be a problem if the world wasn't full of gay bashers.
If God did not agree with Homosexuality then he wouldn't have made us this way. What gives other people the judgment to decided what is right from wrong? Only God can judge us for what we have done in our lives. I wouldn't want to change who I am so as to fit the mold. The reason we are unique is because we are different. As long as I am a good person and I don't hurt anyone else then I am living a righteous life. I would definitely not get some miracle cure... and I hate needles too!
True, that God made us, but what if God made us so that we could accept his will and bridle our passions so that we could learn to resist the temptation the homosexuality is? What should you do then?
I really don't know what Gods will is but if you take the biblical interpretation then yes we are all sinners but I personally don't believe that is true or plausible. I think that humans are gifted with free will and it is entirely up to you what you choose to do with your life. I was raised a christian but have through education been enlightened and have since turned away from organized religion in favor of my own spiritualism.
True that Free will, or free agency is of utmost importance, and it is ultimately up to what we choose, but what if we choose contrary to the will of God? Granted deciphering that will is very difficult, but should you discover that the tones of organized religion are right (even a broken clock is right twice a day) Should you follow god's will or your own?
Again, academic, I am not trying to instigate anything, just get people to think. and possibly see my dilemma being tied to mormonism.
The answer would definitely be no, if you remember in x-men 3 @ the end Magnito still tried to be able to move metal objects, which gives the suggestion of either 1 or 2 things 1 the potion didn't stick or two we would never give up mentally or maybe subconsciously who we really are. I'm proud to be gay and our society has come such a long ways so I ask you this my friend, why would you want to turn back time? (not saying you personally)
I would love o turn back time, but then I would forget the wonderful lessons that I have learned with my mistakes. But those willing to take the cur would no longer have the will or the focus to keep trying to get the powers back.
I do think that that is the cheesiest line int he movie however. It was said ... so cheesy, I wanted to go and get some crackers so I could wipe the cheese off of the screen lol!

No, as hard as it's been and things might have been easier had I not been gay, I probably would still side with Storm. I'm not broken or diseased.
Always a fun question, I got all squirmy when Bobby "came out".

Is anything ever really NOT controversial? We all allow a certain set of variance between people, perhaps we just need to expand that.
