Nice video. I thought you might be interested in seeing my version of a video for this song which you can find on my page. Mine is the original version of the one which was 'ripped' from my page and posted as the work of Morsayo!!!!! On my page there is the original and a much better quality version too. Please look and enjoy. RJS
ABBA did do a video of this song I have seen it. Agnetha & Frida are standing on top of a sky scraper at the start singing this song and then they are walking along the street then sitting in a park. When Agnetha singings the line I Am The City she winks at the camera.
I use to play The More ABBA Gold cd to death and i like this song, i agree that ABBA should of realise the track i'am the city as a single and i think this would of been a uk hit.
Sometimes Benny and Bjorn (and I suppose, Stig) made some mystifying decisions about which songs to release as singles. They shelved this, and put out a crappy song like "Under Attack." Or they made "That's Me" a B-side and made "Knowing Me, Knowing You" an A-side. Go figure.
Under Attack is actually my favourite song ever, of all the ABBA songs and all the songs in the world! I have listened to it probably about 1000 times since I first heard it 4 years ago. I love it, the video. I love the words, I love the fashion, I love the harmonies and the robo-voice effect. I also play it on the piano. I bought the original vinyl single on ebay and one day I played it at 33 1/2 rpm and I could hear chords I had not noticed before. I was in heaven!

I think this would have played well had they released it back in 1982. It was one of those last minute decisions to make a best of album instead of a full blown album...one decision I would have second guessed. Thanks for watching.
@ji61m It was a decision made in part because they knew they weren't going to have a full studio album ready to release. Plus, all four were working on different projects at the same time. Frida had just finished up her solo album and was promoting it, Agnetha was starting her solo album, and B&B were in the very beginning stages of the musical Chess. With the seven or so tracks they did complete it was obvious they had moved away from the serious tone of the The Visitor.
My friends and I were driving to San Francisco from LA. I had never been to The City before. As we drove through the tunnel my friend played this song and we came onto the East Bay Bridge and there in view was SAN FRANCISCO in all her glory. An amazing experience. Thanks for posting, brough back a lot of memories. Oh and now I live in San Francisco - The City.
Thank u! I get so exited every time a find new songs! love them all...and yeap got to love the city, is nothing like living in that hurry all the time, sounds crazy but actually is nothing like a big city!
You're welcome. This is another one that got shelved in 1982 for 11 years before being released On "More ABBA Gold" in 1993. I've lived in a big city long ago, now where I live is about 1/10th the size.
Sorry so late on this reply, it's sometimes hard to keep up. I've liked ABBA since 1974 and while there are times when my mind strays from them they'll never be forgotten. Thanks for looking in.
I've had this song for along time but for some reason it got lost in the shuffle and I just found it, so why not post a vid for it...and I did! I figured you for a country girl, but you love big cities. Thank you Aggy.
Well..I'm glad you made a video to it, it is really good!:) Haha, I can be a country girl too. I guess I'm used to cities because that is where most of my life was spent. But once I go to the countryside again...I'm fully living the life! After all there is also nothing like loooong wheat fields, tall grasses, and fresh air:P Describes me well:)
Never heard this one before that I can recal. It is a really nice tune too! I played it twice in a row trying to remember hearing it! Nope the memory is down! Nice slide show with it all goeing together nicely. I like it a lot! Thanks for the upload Jim!
It was presumably one of their last recordings together, recorded in 1982. It was going to be included in their ninth studio album, but we all know that "The Visitors" in 1981 was the end. "The Singles: The First Ten Years" was done instead, and this effectively left "I Am The City" on the proverbial shelf until 1993 when "More Abba Gold:More Abba Hits" was released. It's not that well known outside of the Abba circles. Thanks Dallas.
This is the mature ABBA. What a great beat, it just gets you jumpin...you can really feel it in this song. Super Vid Jim! Why did Polar wait soooo long to release this? It probably would have been a chart topper. Was this ABBA's requiem?
Sounds like a ninth album wasn't just a dream Rob. But then they just couldn't pull it together to get it done. It's a shame they couldn't, but in the end they had just plain had enough. Bjorn and Benny were two writers who were very critical of the work, even their own, and they decided that the hit singles route was the way to go and this of course left "I AM The City", a new recording, out in the cold!
It's not bad Shay. The colors could come out a little better though. When I make the video, the colors just flash! After uploading, they all seem to go blue-green (but they still flash).
thank you jim for your visual efforts,,,what a great song, imagine if they did release that 9th album, this would have been a hit, back to the pop and trademark harmonies, it's all good to me, but I think the masses would have responded to this
By the time "The Visitors" was done, they were pretty much tired of one another. With the attitudes they had, I'm sure they would have had a hard time finishing a 9th album. And how much would the quality have suffered had they not all put their best into it.
Good video here Jim but all my videos take less than 30 mins to upload as I transfer them to mpeg then to flv to get the best quality sound in high qualiy sound by some free software I use.
Flash video is nice(and fast)but when you work with the kind of effects that I'm using, they get all muddled and washed out with flash video. I'd rather upload a longer, time-consuming WMV file so I can retain the nature of the effects. It's just more pleasing to the eye and it doesn't hurt the sound. If you run your song through an AAC, the sound is very clean and clear and works well with the WMV File.
I love this song! Too bad it isn't on iTunes where I live. If this was released back in 1983 as a double A-Side with "Just Like That" it might of been a huge hit.
This one would probably be a little hard to find on something like ITunes Matthew. It's not one of their more popular songs, and wasn't released until 1993. You can still download it in mp3 format, but off a lesser known site. I'm guessing of course, I got it off a site I use but hadn't heard of until I found it. Thanks for watching.
I know. I mean, iTunes where I live has the early 90's remix of "Lovelight", But not this, which is kinda odd. I also wish "Ah Vilka Tider" would come to iTunes, since it's quite possibly the greatest thing madkind has ever done, even better than Vanilla Coke.
Just a guy who.......hmmmmm starting to even sound like Aggy " I'm just a girl nothing special". :) :) your more then just a guy Bill even recognized how truely talented you are it takes a lot more the the desire to produce video this great.
Maybe I've tapped into some unknown talent that I have. Maybe I should be working in video editing or something along those lines. I've found that most of the time, it takes tons of patience to make these.
Thanks Bill. The Making of this video was relatively easy. It was the uploading part that really tested me. I've been having a few problems lately with my ethernet connection, and it took over 5 hours to post this. usually, It only takes around 1 hour.
I appreciate the compliment, I'm just a guy who loves what he does(for a hobby anyway!).

"Under Attack" may not have ben their best single, but I would hardly describe it as "crappy".
valiumland 3 years ago 2
This comment has received too many negative votes show
The music itself and the harmonies are fine, but the lyrics are so generic and disposable, it's like Madonna wrote them.
