To jrcr1 and everyone. I have a set of very handy fingers, I fix my old cell phone with minimal tools as well. I would be more than happy to take any donation of broken devices, and I'm surely I can work out some "for laymen" methods of doing so. :-)
on the older ipods they had plastic clips, you got a snowballs chance in hell doin it that way on my classic 6th gen, they used metal clips its like tryin to open a german tank
Unfortunately, it just wasn't 'this easy' for me. Using tiny screwdrivers to try to separate the front and back plates for my wife's 80G Ipod (Purchased in 2008), I ended up totally bending and destroying the VERY MALLEABLE thin metal plates. She'll be totally pissed when she gets home, but the battery was dead anyway. Back to Fry's for another $230+ donation to APple.
excellent, so you have had it apart a hunderd times before and even then you still used a tool, what a tosser, i just go mine part 80gb black classic, had to use a bloody thin steak knife! And now I have it apart I there a three VERY flimsy wires coming out of battery, two of which are stuck to the case, the other you will need the druggy syringe! What a waste of time! fking apple!
@lyndonkain I totally agree. I just opened mine and I was about to give up many times. It´s definetely not as easy as it looks in this video. Not to mention removing the old battery!
I used a Fender extra heavy pick. I am glad I didn't break it!!
@getogoth696 He didn't use them, take a closer look, or how do you explain he did it three times with a different tool, when you only need to do it once?
i'm sure it's easy when you've already opened it 100 f'en times, right?? Why don't you show us how to open it the very first time which is the reason we're looking at your stupid video!! You might as well title you vid, "How to Open it with Abracadabra!!"
you gotta be f'en kidding me right?? I feel like I'm building a f'en rocket here...I can't even get a crack on mine to open...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhgggg!
Make sure you only slide around the metal edge - I managed to crack some of the plastic housing that holds the hard drive. I used a guitar pick, a heavy one (probably why I did damage).
hi. so i replaced the battery, but the battery won't hold a charge. my ipod 5 gen will only work if the ipod is plugged into an outlet. When i plug my ipod into the pc, i get a Please wait very low battery.
Do you have any suggestion as to how I can get the battery working/charging?
I bought 2 new battery, both had the same result.
Is there any difference between the 5th gen 30gb ipod video battery and the 80gb ipod classic battery? Or they are just the same? I was just planning to buy a higher capacity battery for my 80gb ipod classic.
@MEATALHEADZSTANDUP that would make it a 3rd generation iPod. The 6th gen is the only generation referred to as simply "Classic". Before that, they were just called iPods.

I tried doing this with a Classic, but it didn't work. Case is to hard to open. Use a Guitar Pick, it works just as well as any case opener.

chineboy359 2 years ago
you have to charge them in the iPod for atleast 6hours, and try to get 24hours of charginf for the first time.
You may have to cycle the battery a few times before it will hold a decent charge
