If we can slaughter cows, why can't we slaughter horses? I never understod why we dont eat horse, i think its tradition because horse was such a valuable means of transportation back in the days.

Maybe if people would STOP BREEDING so many animals nature would balance itself out like its been doing for millions of years before humans got into the mix and started screwing things up. An animal's life is the responsiblity of the human that got that animal. If you can't afford it, don't get it!

You know what's funny? Does anyone realize if we don't eat cows, chickens, pigs and yes even horses that the populations of said animals would become too many for us to handle??? I say go for it and eat them...better then them being starved and abused by there owners. And yes this is coming from an animal lover I was raised around them all my life specially horses I had nine of them growing up...

you do relise that horses are killed for food for many people. its everyday life. sure no one wants to see a horse killed. but if it means saving a family from starvation then I would do it.

Go look at the back of a bute tube, or most of the other meds we give them. See the warning that says NOT INTENDED FOR ANIMALS USED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. Want to know why it says this? Because it had the potential to make you VERY SICK!

Have you ever thought about how; HORSES can be ridden. There useful. There magical. They bring put the best in people. Cows and chickens can't be ridden. Aren't useful at all. Horses are stronger, they can pull carages. THATS why it's so terrible. If anyone thinks slaughter is good... Go to hell. Why is it so terrible to kill a horse for food? Yet you think it's fine to eat cows, pigs, chicken, turkey and so on. These are treated far worse than in the pictures you have here all over the world. So, all you can do is buy good quality stuff or become a vegetarian because it's never going to stop! So I only buy free range, organic meat so I know they've been treated well before slaughter.

So I'm considering buying organic & free range meats to get protein but still feel good about what I'm eating, & know it didn't die horribly. I've been a vegetarian for almost two years, and at first I didn't want anything to do with meat, but now I'm not so grossed out about it. I understand what happens, and I don't really have a problem with the meat itself anymore. Just the way the animals are treated.

If you think this is horrible then I plead you to watch the Mexican plants slaughter their horses. A SEVERE warning though: I nearly threw up after watching it. It takes a lot to get me sick. Canada Isn't the only one slaughtering horses, except after watching that. It makes me think that THIS is more humane and I dislike the Quebec plant. I wouldn't wish THAT treatment on any mean or nasty horse anywhere!?

Twlya, I can see,but its so Dark in there. I can see, they r all standing squished togeather, without any food or water.They look so pityful,scared,tired,lonely & confused! Any good horse-owner would say the same. They look-up to the camera,and snort,(a sign of fright) and reach-out for humain Help! They must ache in pain and discomfort,from long hours of transport.or long stress-ful hours from being outside.Whats with the green Tags? My Heart, aches for them, who waited in line to Die! The US hasn't banned horse slaughter - they still send many, many terrified horses to Canada to be slaughtered! And it's a brutal, long slaughter for these gentle, trusting creatures who have been people's pets.

@cowgirl535 I ALSO (THOUGHT) there was MY MARE! THE PAINT-HORSE, with Black Halter on,in the middle of video, i almost flipped! Her eyes even looked the same, when she got scared of something. Their fur is dirty & long,looks like they,ve been out in the cold! I knew my horses, inside& out. In the summer, she shinned like a diamond, with her soft-silk, painted coat.I can still, feel her beside me :( but, i,m sure she is somewhere else, then this HELL-HOLE! This guys are very dangerous! the horse at 1:29 looks like my old horse but she had to be put down (was put down humanely) because the cancer was making her life miserable she couldn't get up one day so that is when she was put down. Poor girl

In response to your request: if you want to help end slaughter, join Equinewelfarealliance do org and Americans Against Horse Slaughter. They work with the HSUS, who have a broader platform. They're working on a Bill to ban transport to Canada and Mexico for slaughter. Thanks!

@roxdoggirl No, the US banned slaughter. Senator Obama closed the last slaughter plant in Chicago, on humane grounds. 100,000+ horses are being brutally slaughtered in Canada every year. The US ships them to us, or to Mexico. Please visit the Humane Society of the US website to find out how you can help stop US horses being killed in Canda. Please. I am Canadian, and this is horrific.

After watching all of the footage, I have to say this is the most disgusting and repulsive thing I have ever seen or heard of. Horses are the most majestic and magical horses on the planet who deserve to be treated with the same respect and dignity that we, humans expect. @punkiehorse I know only too well how you feel. I owned horses in Dallas, TX when Dallas Crown and Beltex were still haulin' 'em in. Horse theft was SO rampant that we were all terrified for our horses. Some of us had our horses freeze branded in hopes it would deter thieves.

In 1992, 3 horses were stolen from my boarding barn. One was in the stall NEXT to mine; one was just across the isle; the other was a few stalls down. My big (15.3h) fat (1250) BRANDED Morgan gelding was still there!

Yes, we couldn't believe how many came in haltered. Some are even shot with them still on. Minutes later in the video you see the bloody halters being thrown out of the butchering room. It's all just so, so devastating.

When I investigated Richelieu back in 2007, I still hadn't formed an opinion about horse slaughter. It was an experience here - seeing the horses rushing the holding pens running up to the blood-covered men seeking affection - that convinced me it had to stop.

We went to Dallas Crown & Beltex many times trying to spot them, but we never did. One of them was the sweetest 18 year old TB mare you'd ever meet. It still makes me cry because that darling girl who had never known anything but love had to die like that. I'm crying now.
