I hope noone just takes this song at face value, this is not exactly a song about feeling miserable. The exaggerated self pity of the lyrics is extremely witty. Morrisey is taking the piss out of himself, and anyone else who may take things a bit too seriously. And that is a very healthy thing to do. I mean "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now"... He's joking! This is probably my fave Smiths song.
