Everyone does realize that no arapaima has really gone over 6-7feet. 15 foot arapaima are just a myth, the stories all come from the native people, as same with bigfoot. What im trying to say is that arapaima are acceptable as a common aquarium fish and that there are no examples of these 15foot monster fish. That's the same thing they do in the dry season in the amazon when the water is dropping and the oxygen concentration starts to fall through the floor...That might give you an idea that that volume of water doesn't hold enough o2 for a fish that size, the surface area is too small to support it. I had one. Growing it in a small aquarium since spawn till it got bigger and nearly broke the glass. Couldn't afford taking care of it, I spoke to the local zoo official and they were willing to take it in. So i let go. It was just last month when i last paid a visit to the zoo, and it already grew nearly two meters, sooner than I thought it would!
