@9965paul the first of its kind was the danish one, (dannebrog) then the swedes, Norwegians and finns copied our flag. and iceland was once a part of denmark, but that was a long time ago, but then when the vikings lived there they made a flag that looked like ours but it was just to show that it was an outpost or a camp. now alot of swedes and other Scandinavian people will probably comment and say "its not true what he told yam sweden had the first flag or norway, denmark copied our flag" -.-

I would say, this anthem is not about religion, otherwie it would be more specific in that subject! It's about naming and worhipping eternal God comparing Him with our human condition! Even the thousand years of Iceland are small in these lyrics! The end of the anthem is:

That reverently passes away"

No "ruuule, Icelandia!", no chauvinism, no enhanced nationalism, but pure devout humility!
