his coreography really expresses his passion for skating as well as the pains he's gone through. it's like everything he's experienced and skated was put into this one program. At least that's how I interpret it. very beautifully done. looking forward to more from this athlete.

They didn't give him a BAD score at the Olympics, just didn't give him, IMO, a GOOD ENOUGH score. He was 8.36 points out of a bronze medal. He was not as good technically as Evan (Evan deserved gold), but I think his artistry alone could have made up8.36 points over the 2 programs. With all the noise from some Russians over whether YP deserved silver or not, there are a LOT of people saying Weir was underscored. We can't change his placing now, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating!

You get points for a triple axel even if you fall as long as it is fully rotated. A triple axel is worth 8.2 points whereas a double axel is only worth 3.5 points. Even if the skater gets a deduction for a fall (-1) and gets the lowest GOE(-3) he still nets 4.2.

I dont know...I guess skating just kinda lost his touch...I remember being a die hard skating fan, but when Michelle left the game so did my interest. The 1998 Olympics were the best in my opinion because the competiion was really good on both the womens and mens side. I do hope Weir does well, one thing I like is his artistry (something you dont see much of) skating is more techical than art now...maybe thats why the ratings have dropped any good luck to Johnny in Vancouver, I'll be watching!

If he could ever get his act together on his jumps he will win an olympic gold! His artistic program is so much better than anyone elses but he just can't get his jumps:(

Johnny Weir ddeserevd a gold or atleast bronze!He was amzing his dance had sooo much passion in it it was amazing!Why??!?! did they give a bad score?They robbed him of his medal!it not fair they have sometig against him i swear he desereved gold his performance made me cry!!!And am still cryin and ask why did he not get a medal?He was beautiful deserevd a medal!

They didn't give him a BAD score at the Olympics, just didn't give him, IMO, a GOOD ENOUGH score. He was 8.36 points out of a bronze medal. He was not as good technically as Evan (Evan deserved gold), but I think his artistry alone could have made up8.36 points over the 2 programs. With all the noise from some Russians over whether YP deserved silver or not, there are a LOT of people saying Weir was underscored. We can't change his placing now, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating!

So fluid. He moves like air. So beautiful to watch. He should have the gold cus his skating is the best. Most artistic. Most beautiful. What a legendary skater. Figure skating is not all about jumps. It's more than that. Johnny should have the gold cus his skating touches our soul. it clears my soul. It's more than figure skating. It's so beautiful. He is just so special.

Is it safer ( I mean are you penalized less) if you try the triple axel and fall or not do the triple at all?

You get points for a triple axel even if you fall as long as it is fully rotated. A triple axel is worth 8.2 points whereas a double axel is only worth 3.5 points. Even if the skater gets a deduction for a fall (-1) and gets the lowest GOE(-3) he still nets 4.2.

@blazingraisin - Great explanation, THANK YOU! I deduce that the only reason one would not want to risk a triple and fall would be because it could have a serious impact on self-confidence (not to mention the weeee overlooked fact that IT HURTS. Thanks again.

I dont know...I guess skating just kinda lost his touch...I remember being a die hard skating fan, but when Michelle left the game so did my interest. The 1998 Olympics were the best in my opinion because the competiion was really good on both the womens and mens side. I do hope Weir does well, one thing I like is his artistry (something you dont see much of) skating is more techical than art now...maybe thats why the ratings have dropped any good luck to Johnny in Vancouver, I'll be watching!
