  • the audience could use a few throat lozenges

  • this is my favorite part of my favorite piece of music ever, too bad it was such an abrupt cut

  • the 312 dislikes are from the strings of the piano :)

  • Omg lol this interpretation was so good people disliked it rofl

  • Fuck you all - Just shut the fuck up and listen - - - or LEAVE!!!

  • I'm a jazz saxophonist....but- this guy and this orchestra is amazing.......I have goosebumps...this is one of the most exciting things I have heard in a long time....I want to buy this recording.

  • BRAVO,GEORGY,PERFECT...

  • The powerful bass drum & appropriately slow but powerful piano n strings make it so epic at that part. Other performances (even of Rach) didnt give me emotion like this... Best on utube ive ever seen (for that part ^^)

  • I only usually listen to 10 minutes of Youtube at a time once in a while & I also complained about the split but I know nothing about the technicalities of these videos (I am technologically-challenged)!! However, I would like to find out if it is possible to get a CD by this orchestra of Rachmaninoff since they did such an excellent job!!! Does anyone know?

  • to all those complaining about the video being cut off... the time limit for a youtube video was 10 minutes at the time. they didn't have much choice.

  • @Neijya They still could have done the cut at :20 or 1:48 and still gotten the climactic recapitulation in under the ten minutes. Poor judgement. Still this guy is very VERY good---gives the whole concerto, especially in the 2nd Movement just the right tempo and nuance to make it a desirable audio/video to have.

  • It's too bad they split the recording on 2 videos!!! Cutting it at an end climax was very poor judgment!!! Would have been much, much better if the piece had been recorded completely on 1 video! That said the soloist pianist is excellent & the orchestra is very good as well!!! Is it possible to buy a CD of this Rachmanimoff piece?!!!

  • Rachmaninoff took music to the next level...he dispensed with the light and pretty/happy music of the classical era and decided to make some emotional, powerful, awe-inspiring, want-to-pound-the-piano-through-the-floor kind of insane orchestration and compositions. That's why he is the best

  • Nothing can describe how i feel when i get into Rachmaninoff's music works, he is the best of all,

  • That out of tune key is really starting to show starting in this section. IDK if you can hear it. Around 0:45 and onward.

    Wonderful performance. =)

  • He pounded on that piano hard enough to knock it out of tune. lol The Rach Hammer.

  • To be fair, it would have been disruptive wherever they put the break, but maybe they could have chosen a better place. It reminds me of the old 78 rpm records which had such short playing time that one often had to turn them over or change them in the middle of a piece of music.

  • how dare you put a video break in the middle of a huge cadence. YOU RETARDS!!!!!

  • Incredible soloist!

  • i think there is a business for paying people to cough in concert.

  • Did anyone else start to feel as if the piano was slightly out of tune on the higher notes? About maybe an octave or two above middle C.

  • fantastic music love this piece

  • there is a japanese anime called nodame contabile where one of its main characters plays this amazing piano concerto. thank you for the upload

  • AWESOME =D

  • Hey nice video, the true is you can buy USA iTunes gift cards at this store iTunesgiftScards at COM

  • the most amazing part 0:00 to 0.26

    It is SAD but powerful

  • fantastic piano playing

  • in my opinion is it too fast...this is MODERATO, but this interpratation isn't.. but he plays very well ;)

  • @adam013cze

If you think this is fast you should listen to some other renditions x_x

  • beautiful music, thank you for posting!

  • I cannot forgive you for where you cut this, right in the most powerful movement.

But thanks for posting this, still like it.

  • i agree

  • im speechless! so breathtaking!

  • Sviatoslav Richter plays faster and Iike it faster!

  • Voshititelno!

  • мало музыкально

  • Absolutely amazing! What a talented person!

  • en el clímax

  • psssst, bendito lugar eligieron para fraccionar la obra... sin comentarios...

  • Absolutely the most beautiful sound

  • The beginning of this video is actually my favourite part of the piece. I've heard it hundreds of times but it still never fails to excite me.

  • awesome piece

  • Love, love, love love love it! Seriously, that guy can play.

  • What a wonderful coda.

  • One day my mother brought one doubble CD made by Cherkin home... The first time I've heard "Cherkin plays Rahmaninov" I was thinking there are godlike hands moving over the piano! Respect!

  • They sure did, damn youtube video length limits.. I LOVE the beginning of Concerto #2, but the entire thing is great. One of my favorites.

  • huh... they really cut the video in half just when the good part was there -_-

  • Exactly! It's like when you are enjoying your nice fish dish, but there is a fishbone hiding in it!!! I felt it stuck in my throat out of blue!!!

  • that happen when you go to the moon listening to rachmaninoff

  • @Alastor255 lol agreed....it would be nice for someone to put theentire thing up in one part

  • Rachmaninoff = my favorite composer

  • Rachmaninov is my favorite composer too!By the way ,the soloist in this video is really great!!

  • drtompain, "You are a retard" #1 he is playing on a Steinway, the greatest piano ever. #2 This is a youtube video the sound quality is degraded dramatically. The piano is perfectly tuned you fucktard.

  • The Best Version in Youtube.

  • i think u r right.

  • It's a pretty schoolboy error not to tune the piano properly before a performance!

  • it's not out of tune (the a-flat) in the the first half as far as I can tell - it must have slipped...imagine the frustration! but then again, the orchestra starts to get pretty shady with their tuning (3:49 etc) - I wonder if the heating went off or something :)

  • Yeah, you're pretty much a jerk. And second of all, he is not responsible for the tuning, which, if you listen to the actual recording instead of the live, is fine.

  • Comment removed

  • i also heard it in nodame, and this became my favorete!

  • Its strange, pianist plays some false notes and there one note in the keyboard that sounds false as well, but in this part, pianist plays more confortable as the 1st part. Orchestra plays as good as the beginning but just to remarque somethinf, one of the air istruments plays a little bit loud starting this second part... in general, was good.

  • The A-flat went really out of tune !_!

    The performance itself was great.

  • Robotman, are you able to hear that well? In fact, at the start, I heard something " Go a little sour "!! Good call, Robotman!

  • um...thank you.

  • That means you have learnt the piece before. Am I correct? If so, I'd love to hear your performance some time!!!

  • I haven't studied the piece on a practical (at the keyboard) level. "Perfect pitch" is what tells me it's an A-flat.

  • Nodame version is from japan symphony orchestra

    not other.

  • so do i. i fall in love with this concerto when i watch nodame.. brilliant piece

  • I heard it in nodame too and this concerto is really amazing! :)

  • yeah i was inspired by nodame cantabile and search for this =)

  • i love when music-genre anime inspires people to like classical. it actually got me into classical music- i used to think it was boring until i watched La Corda d'Oro. it was strange being raised classically on piano and violin but disliking classical music haha

  • wonderful! played with so much passion...

  • いいところで!!

    つながってない!!!

    でも、音色は素晴らしい!

  • The timpanist overdecorates everything... but not in a good way, like some do.

(She) plays the beginning of this clip as if it were Tchaikovsky... with the long staccato strokes... but its Rachmaninov, and its legato... i've played it.

  • i like this song at nodame cantabile...so wonderfull...i even got faint when i hear it from my heart...heheheheheheheeh..juz great!!!...

  • つながってないのが、、、残念・・・・(ノω≦`)

  • Personally, my favorite part of this movement is the short coughing concerto tagged to the end. :)

  • Personally, my favorite part of this movement is the short coughing concerto tagged to the end. :)

  • I find it a tad too slow for my taste...Well just my personal opinion...Otherwise,a really passionate interpretation by the pianist...

  • Great job! Wonderful performance!

At 0:34 it sounds like the piano is slightly out of tune. Anyone else hear it?

  • very impressive performances, he really gets in love with the piano. and having a good overview also.. he seems like a good person also.

  • I agree--slower is better for this piece. Nicely done!

I'm so disappointed, however, that the break came at my favorite moment, which was performed superbly, but...lost something, somehow in the mouse clicks necessary to get from I to II.

  • Yes i agree, so sad e break comes at the climax of the 1st movement:( But otherwise this is a really passionate rendition!! Truly heavenly.

  • Yes, that really disturbed me as well! Alas!

  • Absolutely fabulous! This is certainly one of the most musical interpretations I've heard in years of this old warhorse. Too many pianists toss this off as being a virtruosic exercise. Not here. Bravo! Never heard of these performers either. Check out the Volodos version. Also very very good.

  • I totally agree, every note played by the fingers of this pianist really speaks musically. Fantastic.

  • Kind of too slow

  • I find the pianist very inspiring. Actually, it is played a little bit slower than usual, but I find it very impressive and deep performance.

  • Yes, I agree. Karajan's version was much slower when the french horn had the solo.

  • Worst piano concerto ever...

  • dumbest bitch on youtube.

  • how can you even say that?

  • you know, i find that most people who criticize performances like you are people who only listen to different recordings and then judge others' playings based on that...why don't you learn to play the piece first, and then make your judgments. i don't know if you really do play music at all, but judging by your comment, you're either an arrogant bastard who thinks you can play this piece better, or some ignorant dumbass who doesn't know music at all.

  • that comment just now was to schzngrm1234 btw...well, pretty obvious tho...it's the only comment with a negative rating on this page

  • Which is the best version of this piece Concerto N. 2, 1st movement?

  • Easily the second. :P It is so powerful...and yet so majestic.

  • absolutely excellent my overall favorite concerto

  • Not the best version I've heard, but this is a masterpiece that can't be topped.

  • I love this concerto soooo much its my second favorite piano concerto the first has to be grieg! and then this one, and then the third would have to be beethovens 1st.

  • i agree..i agree :D

i just love the melody of this song..

  • haha grieg over Rach 2?? no way

  • this has always been a favorite with me. thank you for these videos but i can't figure out the different order they are in could you please help me and send a message of your videos and how they are listed tcherkin. i would really appreciate this. thank you

  • I agree with you all

this version is the best in this site that I've never seen

  • BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • excelente, me encatna este concierto, gracias!!!

  • EXCELLENT SOUND QUALITY!! 10 out of 10 for this umm "cover version" :-D

  • Never thought I'd hear a performance of this to rival Weissenberg or Richter. But you've GOT IT, Maestro!

  • yay for emotions welling up!

  • brrrravo

  • this is my favourite piano concerto!

    well done!
