  • Oh Hai Lowqualitydrop

  • the needledrop 240P

  • 1:57 anthony sounds like a loal newscaster haha

  • @doc998 local*

  • The Drums....dude...I really love to hate that sound. It's so boring.....it's fresh? Yeah like a booger maybe...

As soon as a bands logo ends up as a Tipp to be real Hip while wearing their shirt in the freakin "Cosmopolitan" , it's just over man.

This Crap is so horrible man, I don't even like one single song on that album

This Song "Let's go Surfing" kinda haunts me, on evry party I go this is played and evrytime I look for something sharp to stab myself, just so I don't have to endure....XD

  • What happened to the video quality?

  • REVIEW CITY AND COLOUR'S LITTLE HELL!!!!! DO IT NOW!!!!! ....please?

  • @IAmThinkTank IAmThinkTank is a pretty cool guy. But not as cool as deadpool...

  • @IAmThinkTank sum1 wants 2 write for hipsterrunoff. lol

  • @IAmThinkTank DEADPOOOOOL

  • I like you going back to the old format, also, Fucked Up - David Comes To Life

  • @facesplosion Check the date genius...

  • @klmstars thank you kimstars. I need to start looking at my calender every now and then.

  • @klmstars thank you kimstars. I need to start looking at my calender every now and then. I'm retarded

  • write(on)

  • I must have missed this review somewhere down the line last year...you're still funny and awsome Anthony :-) The Drums are a lot of what exists out in this genre today, and unfortunately, some of it isn't as half as good as this, but it's still good.

  • Honestly, this record only has like 5 good songs

They're kinda repetitive, and their hipster allure turns me off because they try WAY too hard..

  • Another reason why i like the drums is when thay started up (goat explosion first then elkland)it was through a shear love of music and good songs. Niether of them were classicaly trained musicians or anything, in fact far from it. in a interview jacob said the only songs he can play on the guitar are ones he has made up. So to make an album that millions of people have really enjoyed with the playing skills they had is amazing. They certianly know how to put great songs together thats for sure

  • Yes they are influenced a lot by good uk bands. As i saw in an interview once jonathan pierce and jacob graham were saying that they used to write letters to each other suggesting new british bands they have descoverd. So no matter what they did that influence is going to show through somewere. Personaly i dont think they sound like any of the bands mentioned in the review as a hole but obviously certain parts do yes. Overall they sound like the drums, whitch is a band with british influences!

  • ANTHONY FANTANO I DON'T PARTICULARLY LIKE THE DRUMS BUT I WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS:

You have a surface level knowledge of music and preach to the same crowd. The Drums sounds NOTHING like Joy Division. That is only the front man's stage posturing which is equally comparable to Calvin Johnson. Also there is nothing surf rock about The Drums's outside of a song that merely mentions surfing. There were much more accurate bands to compare them to like: The Field Mice, or the Wake.

  • My new favorite band,I love THE DRUMS,i'll buy this!

  • gaaahhh I hate the Drums! Come on hipsters, we've beaten the 80's revival to death already, let's move onto the 90's!

  • 2:33...just named most of my top 5 favorite bands

  • You need to learn how to feel emotion behind the music you review and not just hear the music. :) but, more emotion comes from the lyrics. If you knew what made good or bad lyrics, you could bring your youtube music CD review show up to the next level of awesomeness. just saying.

  • I really don't like the Drums because I saw a live performance and the vocals were totally different, not bad, different. I haven't heard much of their music but the vocals have this "indie" sound that is quite popular and live it was totally different.

  • I like my vocals on key if someone is singing around me, like without a band or trying to sing a tune they know. But I don't mind recorded vocals that are all over the place that much (see: Girls - Album). I'll give this a listen

  • Smiths and Joy Division comparisons are too easy. That whole minimal jangly schtick is taken from the 80s British twee/C86 movement. Also there is no surf rock in their sound. That's just a misconception by people who think a song with the word surfing in it qualifies as surf rock.

  • Hey man can you pleasssse do a review of Mystery Jets' new album 'Serotonin'

  • Your a faggot. The drums album is a very good album, and all you can do is criticise it, i'd like to see you do better. the drumss are fucking awesome

  • @cbrowne19 didn't he say he liked it? he gave it an 8/10. what are you talking about? nice insult too.

  • @cbrowne19 he gave it an 8/10. he loved it.

  • the drums are awful at playing live

  • Comment removed

  • love it!

  • What was that last song? A Drums song?

  • i downloaded a few of the drums songs off rcrdlbl.com

including the absolutely fantastic remixes by the clean shaven grins of let's go surfing

  • the drums are a great pop band.they also like to copy older 80s pop songs. thats how they started trying to sound like the wake. they were amazing as elkland as well. with all the bands coming out sounding like the same old indie sound i think the drums are doing a much better job. people dont seem to notice how electronic they actually are.

  • Most of my favorite bands(barely any from modern times) you either love or hate and thats what i have found with the drums. I BLOODY LOVE IT!

  • I really think you can listen to the drums as a cheesey pop group or you can get into the serious nature of the music. Personally I LOVE the minamalist sound of the album, similar to joy division in that respect I think definately. The smiths are full stop my favorite band of all time no question and I would not compare them to the drums in really any way. I must confess I do feel a connection with Jonathan Pierce who i feel is incredibly honest just a great singer my fave new bandby a long shot

  • nob

  • effing rad shirt. where'd you get it? PS. Good review too, after hearing 'Let's Go Surfing" I was curious to see what the rest of the album was like. Gonna check this one out.

  • Great Review, great Album!

Love your t-shirt dude! Where can i buy one?

  • ha I love your reviews

  • I like these guys.Theyre not GREAT and certainly nothing special, but they have that nice feel to them. And also i saw them on mtv and that was great because it was really different from the repetetive crap they play 24/7.I think 8/10 was fair.

Also the lead singer runs like a fuckin girl. *For reference see the video for Lets go Surfing

  • I love this album due to their "New order" esque sound, and they add alot of their own style to some tracks. I can see where the negative criticisms come in, and they are fair points, its nice of you to lay your opinion in such a well spoken way. the band reminds me of General Public in ways, as their first album "All The Rage" also had two hits everyone knew that made the album.

  • Listen to 'It will all end in tears', 'We tried' and 'The Future' in that order. Soothes my soul.

  • Dude thank you so much for doing this review I never would have even heard of these guys!!!! IM LOVING THEM!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 'outfit' being the operative word.

  • Overly-contrived, stylised hipster-bullshit. I would also love to punch all of them in the face, especially the singer and the drummer. They make me embarassed to be a human being.

  • @TheBBCIsRubbish -Spot on

  • The Drums, in my opinion, are violently awful.

  • @OldUnkieAl wholeheartedly agree with.

  • I am obsessed with this album. For me, it's the perfect summer album. Obviously, the hooks are incredible, so much so that I think just about every song on the album has been stuck in my head at some point. But my favorite thing about the album would have to be its carefree nature. They're clearly not trying to be the most meaningful or deepest band out there; they're just playing music they love. And because of that, I love it too.

  • I don't even really listen to this kind of music but I still enjoy watching your reviews. It's weird.

  • This album reminds me that I've been listening to, too much experimental music and I need to get back to stuff like this. Great review Anthony

  • loving the razzle dazzle you put on this review man

  • mhh their EP was a little boring, i felt they were rippin off the smiths TOO much, but this LP is great

  • This gets an eight, yet Wild Smile doesn't? Come on Anthony!

  • @hightimesbruce thought this was better. sorry, bro.

  • I Have To Say! Your So Cute!!=)

  • @RiPcOrDz83 why, thank you! :-)

  • I'm biased cause I love them more than life

I've heard majority of the album and love it

I think the simplicity of the hole thing is a positive

I think this is a fair review

but definately not happy with the 'whiny' vocals comment.

  • I like your reviews, but what do you mean by saying there is no bass guitar? There's a bassline on every track....

  • @S5H1 It's played with a normal guitar that's why thers not that much lowend

  • @S5H1 Listening and not hearing much of any, dude. Plus, the band is billed as being two guitarists, drums, and vox. There are some points where there are some bassy notes played, but it's w/a keyboard.

  • listened to halfway through the album. liking it a lot. dunno if it has staying power, but so far so catchy.

  • I liked the Wire analogy at 1:55. Great review of a great album!

  • maps and atlases - perch patchwork. pretty pleeeease?

  • I CANT BELIVE YOU LISTENED TO MY SUGGESTION!!!

and by the way the Roland Kirk you suggested to me was but a beautiful breeze to listen to in the office today

  • @musicpnppl yeah, get deep into KIRK. he's an amazing player.

  • didn't really feel it.

still addicted to other records that have been released this year.

  • hahaha this guy kills me

  • @Weirdalexo literally? if so, it wasn't my intention.

  • hey anthony, long time fan, first time commenter. sweet review. i think this drums album is pretty good, but it was obviously going to be impossible for these guys to live up to the hype around them.

also, hate to add to the request pile, but i'd love to hear what you think about sun araw's "on patrol." i've been digging it quite a bit lately, but the only review i've seen was a super pretentious TMT one.

  • @ssilbey Well, thanks for commenting, man! :-)

  • @bishicutu wtf it doesn't sound scripted at all. I give your comment a 0/10.

  • I think theneedledrop always does amazing reviews. The Drums are alright, nothing I really would every listen to though.

  • poor delivery. sounded way too scripted. i give your review a 5/10

  • @bishicutu Wouldn't you prefer a well thought out delivery instead of some dude sitting there saying "ummmm" every 2 seconds as he thinks of what to say?

  • Well, it is scripted. Would you rather I blather on endlessly and put up a ten-minute video?

  • @theneedledrop just kidding guys......*looks down meekly

  • people keep flagging this band because they are "unoriginal" . Really? This is the most original shit i've heard in a long time. No one sounds like this band, not even the smiths joy division, ect. Of course you are going to hear the influence of these band in their sound, but the same is said for every other band. The strokes are considered very original, but you can definetly hear the velvet underground in there. Influenced? Yes. Unoriginal? No.

  • that opening...oh the halarity

  • please do take a vacation by the young veins :D

i thought this review was very helpful to appreciate the drums's music, i think it's amazing

  • Do you have tinnitus/any other kind of hearing damage Anthony?

  • @199385369 Fortunately, no. I try to do my best to take care of my hearing. I don't listen to my music too loudly, and I always bring ear plugs to concerts. I'm like an old man. :-P I also wear ear protection if I'm @ the shooting range.

  • i. love. this. band.

  • They are wonderful

  • I love this band, I've been looking forward to this album all year!

  • nice review. very well said, it has something for everyone!

  • @coverkillernation the whole family can enjoy it!

  • I didn't get the memorability part...these songs were pretty forgettable to me. These guys seem like a hype job.

  • Didn´t work for me. Really repetitive, thin layers, boring and uninspiring lyrics. Surely trying to be very cool, hipster.I would say its very light, simple music, but there are bands doing it better this year. Beach Fossils! I don´t see this band having much of a career, nowhere to go. Maybe I´m wrong and they will grow in the future, just not seeing based on this effort. Their singles before this album were nice so maybe its because of that Im a bit down on this. 5/10

  • I love the Drums. And they are awesome live aswell.

  • Absolutely digging the Woods - At Echo Lake album.. thanks for recommending it yesterday!

  • I love the album, also loved the ep, but this new, more emotional direction they've taken is even better. I don't mind the whinyness of the vocals, it really adds more emotion to the song for me.

  • Are they minimalist then, like those other bands you mentioned? I like that quality, 'cause my favourite band is Interpol, and because of that simplicity, you can hear each part of the band.

  • Simple and catchy songs, good album.

  • Great review, hate the Drums! :)

  • @nachkebiaa Love the Drums and love this comment!

  • Like. The. Herp lol

  • Was quite surprised you gave it an 8 after everything you said. I like parts of this album but it does get very samey after a few listens. Light 7 IMO

  • Skippin' Town was my favourite song, but I was kind of disappointed that they didn't change anything on Let's Go Surfing. It sounds exactly like it does on the Summertime EP, which isn't a bad thing, but I guess I just expected them to change it around somehow.

  • Surf-gaze?

  • @StuartGladney *shrugs*

  • I just gotta say dude I freaking love your outro music.

  • Every video I've seen of theirs (the awkwardness/dancing of the singer in particular)... plus their stripped down sound... always scream to me "BEAT HAPPENING" ....

One Calvin Johnson is enough for me thanks.

  • @communistromance BEAT HAPEPEPEPEPENING!!!!! Good call, man, good call!

  • @communistromance I heard that an interview and they said what initially inspired them to make music was Beat Happening.

  • There's something about The Drums that just doesn't catch me, I just can't really see what it is that people see in them. I guess it maybe is the lack of the bass guitar.

  • i think they have some nice pop tunes.

  • makes me wanna go surfin! Hope everything is well man!
