It's a very american thing. High notes, set changes, costume changes...all woth a good 10 seconds of solid applause by American audience standards.

Wow! I forgot how truly entertaining she was. She deserved the Oscar. No matter that her subsequent work paled in comparison to her Cabaret experience. Very few persons achieve the performance she did in that movie. For that, she is an important part of cinematic history, and we are grateful for her contribution.
