I definitely knew I was not the first to make it up Half Dome for the year. It was "my" first ascent of the year. I was at Mt. Whitney on January 1st. Unlike conditions at Whitney, the Half Dome trail is 100% clear.

Good job! But you weren't the first ascent of the year. Look at trip reports on Supertopo. Micronut made the first ascent on 1/1/2012.

yexplore, I am curious... Did you have to cross any ice or snow on the way up to Half Dome?  Or was the trail 100% dry 100% of the way?
