Love this New York Noir! The noir genre is associated more with L.A., but there's something special about noir New York style. Nostalgia reigns supreme here. Great NYC street scenes, great film.
If I were to run from the police, I'd definitely look where I'm going so I don't bump into a blind man and get my mouth chewed off by a vicious german shepherd seeing eye dog.
The street scenes were filmed from a small truck with a hidden camera so these are real people among the actors. There is one small part on Delancy street where the reflection of the truck can be seen in a store window.
I wonder if that little girl at 2:22 was supposed to walk on camera or if she was a simple bystander who got into the shot - either way, it adds to the excitement.

And if it was filmed ten years ago, only about 2% would be white (Jews, mostly), the rest Puerto Ricans and a few Negroes. White yuppies have taken it over now, and the Puerto Ricans are an endangered specie around there, mostly living in the projects. Funny, I didn't see a single Gook in this clip, but they are all over the place now.
Sadly, the landward ends of the pedestrian promenade on this bridge and the masonry portal on the Manhattan end were ruthlessly scrapped in favor of bicycle friendly caged-in ramps. So this landmark film also serves as a memorial to those lost architectural elements.
NYC has that old city look to it, it probably was as nostalgic for people from the 1930's as it is now. Buildings, signs, streetlamps seemed to have been designed to instill a emotional response, hard to explain, but there are alot of nice old things to look at ,and remember. Thanks for putting this on.

This movie is one of New York's absolutely best portraits on film.
