by they time they already knew that the Moon didn't have an atmosphere I wonder why the producers decided to give one to the Moon in this film. Tha decision was later echoed by Ray Bradbury when writing The Martian Chronicles.

this movie is eerie! the depiction of so advanced technology before its time is really flabbergasting; but one must remember that the actual scientists developing it all worked in this film
