  • thank you for the Hip Hop Essentials

  • Yah very good and it's funny seeing monie love playing on drums when the beat is not the same as how she's playing .

  • which better original version or remix version?

  • Hip Hop's not dead it's underground instead

  • Monie Love raps a verse, and Queen Latifah is featured in the chorus.

  • True dope shit.

  • It's mase, plug 3 from de la soul at 1:23

  • @weasel73 actually its Pos so its plug 1

  • 5 people can eat a dick

  • who starts rapping at 1:23 ?

  • Monie Love buried it. I mean there are harder cats like Lin Que, Heather B or the Lady of Rage but nobody can spit rhyme like Monie Love.

  • Blood sucking freaks, always the same pattern but this song really rocks

  • This is one having fun hip hop song. No beef all fun.

  • see i love TCQ and De La Soul but this is just weeeeaaaaak and everyone still dick rides it like its a turd from jesus. this song disappoints me

  • What a twerp her name is even said in the track. The Queen's protege hailing straight from the British Isle's... Miss Love

Oh and the Raw Silk sample!!

  • What a twerp her name is even said in the track. The Queen's protege hailing straight from the British Isle's... Miss Love

  • hm, the original lp-version was much better than this remix

  • this is great!

  • we love u tipp

  • um that's not queen latifah u idiot it's monie love

  • gotta love Native Tongues

  • Latifah's voice is featured in the background of this song, that's why Vlash may have been confused. However she is not featured in this video like she was in De La's "Buddy"! And that is Monie Love in this video rhyming however, so you both were right!

  • does anybody have this version on mp3? i've been loooking all over for this joint in mp3

  • People say Kanye West is a genius. I disagree.

He only brings up to the modern hip hop something that has been forgetten: the f*** melody.

Something that bands like A Tribe Called Quest and Arrested Development were speciallized.

    Long live the good rap!

  • Love how Monie Love spits

  • That's not Queen Latifah. It's Monie Love. Tribe, De La, JBs and Monie combined make up the Native Tongues crew.

  • @teemad I may be wrong, but it sounds like Queen Latifah on 1:15.

However, if I am right, then it sucks that thats all she got to say.

  • @Vlash It's definitely Monie Love, trust me on that one. Queen Latifah had an entirely different sounding voice even back then. I've seen this video countless times on various music programs on TV years before YouTube. The info and video posted on Discogs is wrong too. I'm really not sure where people started thinking it was Queen Latifah. It even makes sense it's Monie Love as this is technically a Native Tongues posse track and Monie Love was in Native Tongues.

  • @teemad Well, I'll just take your word for it. I'm unfamiliar with everyone but Latifah, so I'm sure you're right.

But you really don't think the vocals at 1:15 sound like Queen Latifah? When I first saw this video, I was sure they just took a sample of her voice or something and put it into this song. I mean, she has collaborated with Monie Love twice (I think, maybe just once [or more]) so that's why I assumed it was her voice.

  • is that MCLyte? i don't believe that is Queen Latifah...

  • @junelbug Monie Love.

  • Absolutely crazy tune, crazy clip exploding clip.

This mix of jazz/soul/disco/hip hop is so light, so easy...

Here is France these tunes were greeted with much enthusiasm by the 14 years old kids we were.

That is great post thank you ^_^

  • @fulansujin It was greeted with much enthusiasm in Scotland back then also. Praise the lord for the JB's :-)

  • why did they remove trygoy and mike g second verse?

  • 100% Pure!

  • Why not call it Native Tongues?

  • @junglegeorge88 It didn't really end then, but the mainstream hip hop moved from the old school, as well as most of the artists. Everyone is calling whatever old for "old school". No need to rage on that dude.

  • super cool :) the video is kinda psychedelic. love it thought

  • REAL HIP HOP...I really miss those days...RIP Hip Hop

  • @Supachamploo08 I miss those days, too. I think we should bring those days back by doing our own hip hop songs in that style. Who's with me?

  • I just read in the newspspaper that De la soul is coming to town, Copenhagen... It's been 20 years since their first album, and I went to see a concert. Memory Lane, here I come. Just asked my son to go with me..... :-)
