Need to mention to warm up engine 1st. I use kitchen rubber gloves in case oil too warm. I start mine with the car on flat concrete and then jack up the passenger side to drain extra oil as sump plug slightly to one side, not directly on bottom. DONT GET UNDER CAR WITH ONLY JACK. also change sump plug gasket ring (only about $2). Also fill oil filter with a little amount of oil before fitting, so on engine start there is fresh oil to engine straight away. Nice work though.
you don't need to measure your ramps just make sure they look straight on the wheels, and open the hood and remove the oil fill cap before draining the oil for better flow. other than that great job.
@raksmey00 haha Your Name says it all, I'm also Cambodian so Greetings from Australia! Nice car btw I also have a STi but 06 model. Whats mods do you have?
hey i just got a subaru last week and im looking for the fogs you have were did you buy them from or do you know were i can get the same ones like yours thanks
no that is not your oil tank that is the oil filter and the amount of oil is not based on what you drained out of it because some cars burn oil so the amount of oil that should have been in there was not in there because it was burned as a cause of worn piston rings
Couple of things, remove the oil filler plug first to allow proper drainage, do not overtighten the oil sump plug or you risk damaging the sump thread = new sump pan. You want the engine oil hot as you said, but not so hot it burns you. Wear gloves to avoid contact with oil. Clean the drain plug as some are magnetic and will capture tiny particles of metal etc.
Nice video! I change the oil in my 2008 Forester on ramps too, but I just line them up by eye and drive up! :-) The only thing I do different is I remove the oil filler cap and dipstrick prior to draining the oil so that it flows out easier. I typically let the oil drain for a good hour too.
Have you had any issues with the Purolater leaking/weeping at the gasket? I used a PL14612 once and it leaked. It was the one and only time I used an aftermarket filter.
The ole 23.2 PSId pressure relief valve is hard to come by in aftermarkets. Purolator 14460 is the only one I've seen that's built for it; however, I wish it had an ADBV. I know it's not entirely necessary, but I figure there must be some good reason Subaru always specs their OEM filters to have it.
What year is your STi? I read there were clearance issues with the 14460 on a lot of the newer turbos. I think the oil can boil in the filter because of it's proximity to the exhaust.
@l8z8 yeah it's a shame it doesn't have the silicone drainback valve but I think the PL14612 had one and the PL14610 had one too. I changed my oil yesterday again and the rubber O-ring from the old oil filter got stuck on the filter seating, caught it just in time and took it out. Anyways, my husband used the Subaru OEM filters before and he said it happend to him a few times. I might considering using the black OEM subaru filters...gonna do research more on them.
@raksmey00 Have you ever experienced a leak when using the PL14612 or PL14610 or even the 14460 when properly installed, hand tight? Just because the rubber gasket sticks to the mounting base upon removal of the filter doesn't mean the filter or o-ring is defective. It's a common event with all types and brands of filters, not just Purolator as has falsely been implied here. Also, unless you're having a start up noise or rattle it's very doubtful the PL14460 not having an adbv would matter.
@faxmen09 nope, never had any leak or any problem with the Purolator, I think it's a good filter. I don't have rattling noise on start up either. Still using the same filter.
@raksmey00 The reason I asked about the leaks is, some Subie owners have mentioned that the Pure One may leak/weep as compared to OEM Blue. I suspect it's model specific, especially the model where the filter is totally surrounded by the exhaust manifold, with excess heat. I think you've made a good choice with the Pure One at 99.9% efficient and solid construction, as opposed to the Honeywell OEM.
@raksmey00 Let me know if you can still find the black ones. They were made by Tokyo Roki and were part # 15208AA100. They were discontinued after Subaru of America contracted Honeywell to make the blue ones we see today. The blue ones use a different kind of construction, but they hold up really well. This is my last one:
@raksmey00 Purolater would probably still be the OEM for Subaru H4s, but they only had a short run because most of their filters were returned. They didn't put on a gasket that had the correct diameter and since they were building the OEMs outside of Subaru spec the contract was cancelled. The gasket issue caused most of them to slowly leak. I wish Subaru would go back to Tokyo Roki for the OEM. Those were the best. I use the blue OEM Honeywell now and it's been fine.
@Soobs123 are you talking about the rubber seal o-ring...mine seems to be the correct size. Yeah I've heard people are saying they have a leak on theirs but mine has been fine. I think Tokyo Roki makes S2000 filters now.
@raksmey00 Yes, the rubber seal o-ring. When Purolator had the Subaru OEM oil filter contract they ordered the o-rings from a third party company and they were not to Subaru specifications so they would weep/leak. That's why Subaur of America recalled them from the dealerships. I think the problem has been fixed on the aftermarket Purolators.
Damn. Clean sti :D

@BBSroll 04 STi or WRX? I know it is listed for 02-04 WRX. 04 STi use also PL14612 so I assume it should be fine to use the PL14460.
