See my upload of her Is That All There Is preceding this.
Dean didn't rehearse but he knew the script because tapes would be given him each day of the rehearsals. He listened in the car on the way to golfing, you know.
And he wasn't really a drunk, that was all in fun.
There's some curious electricity between Dean and Peggy during this encounter. Dean introduces her as sexy--and means it. He plays it very coy, enjoying the closeness with Peggy. He's going to basque in the breathy warmth of her sensual voice, and lays out, waiting for Peggy to deliver. But she senses his game and close-mouths him right back. (Either be a professional and shape up or I won't sing our duet and this insipid Polka!) Eventually he pulls it together and behaves.
I was on the set for this taping as a guest of Van Alexander,( the arranger on the Martin show). Yikes! I'm THAT old?!... and Peggy's song WAS "Is that all there is?"
@GeorgeClooney4Ever Actually what you saw of Dean on TV was about all anyone on the set saw of him. See, Dean never rehearsed...NEVER. (Producer Greg Garrison stood in for him at the dress rehearsals) He would arrive at NBC on Sundays (the only day he would tape) and head straight to the dressing room. He would only come out when he was on camera. This is why it was so genuine: he was reading cue cards for the first time, and his ad-libs were spontaneous - and he never overdubbed or retaped.
@Mickagume yeah, i read that somewhere. thank you so much for your answer. i must have been an honour even to see him alive and performing. thank you again
@ww2berry What the f**k is: "watch?v=BsMNOHwbli0&feature=related"...? ...Is this a web site?... Is this a YouTube listing? I haven't been able to access it. Why not just say what you think is "wrong" with my comment?
