There are those that have tried to taxi with the chocks in, and those that will. This comes from a professional pilot with 8,000+ hours. If that's the biggest screwup a pilot has, they'll have a pretty good career. The Riddle bashing is silly and childish. A lot of the comments seem to come from pilot wannabe's. Having a Riddle degree on your resume will help tremendously. I speak from experience. Say what you like, but Riddle is at or near the top with a few others.
i saw it happen all the time.. the world knows ERAU pilots are very arrogant. You'll figure this out when you're struggling to find a job, no mater how modest you may be -09 alumnus
@furtjager117 I don't think ignorance has anything to do with this one. A simple poll amongst the aviation community would prove my theory. Have fun paying off your 200k student loans. Sounds like you bought the bacon as well.
Who cares about which place produces better pilots.....In anything you do there will be incompetent people that make you wonder how they were able to succeed in their respective fields. In conclusion, flying sucks.
There are two types of pilots, those that have tried to taxi with their chocks still in, and those that will. And seeing that you are an aviator as well, it surprises me that you would insult a fellow pilot and not even try to help him. How about a little more courtesy in the future?
@Tex24Whiskey yes ATP is a quick and easy way to get your licence and be certified for flight, but there are different approaches to it. Embry sure isnt the fastest, but you graduate with lots of more flight hours, instruction, and a college bachelors degree. Anyways what you should judge flying schools in should be quality, not length in time.
I guess it's kinda like being a politician....as soon as you mess up on camera even just once the entire world is there ready to make fun of you. I understand why people like making fun of ERAU, or why they "hate us" .... and it gets old after a while, but we get use to it. When you have been here for 4 years and see the caliber of training and the amount of drop outs who can't keep up with the curriculum, it makes me feel good knowing that we really are a top notch institution.
@airman1stclass I wish I could go to Embry RIddle, I got accepted but I can't afford it, and I also don't want an aviation degree. I believe Riddle is too expensive how ever I do think the flight training program is top notch, which is the main thing that matters. If only they offered a International Business course, then I would be there getting all my ratings. Ah well, I will just enjoy my state school flying on the side.
HAHAA, "why does it take full power to taxi?" Good stuff, man. Why is everyone ball-bagging about it being dangerous and you should have blah blah blah? A Cessna isn't exactly a ball of fire even IF it jumped the chocks. And yes, the rest of the aviation world really does hate Embry.
Hey....we aren't just a flight school, we are a UNIVERSITY.....where else can you get your 4 year degree and fly almost everyday besides the Air Force Academy? I'm just saying.....for someone to call Riddle "Just a Flight School" obviously isn't up till midnight or later every night working on avionics and physics projects like we are! We aren't just pilots....we are trying to be the best in the sky and in the class room! That's why we pay the big buck to go here!
@airman1stclass Utah State University, University of North Dakota, University of Oklahoma, University of Nebraska, St Cloud Univeristy, Purdue University, and Louisiana tech just to name a few.
Anyone can make an honest mistake. What is dishonest is attempting to make a funny video instead of helping another person who could be in a bad situation. He made a simple mistake, you are a bad person.
Nothing a little full throttle can't overcome. Although, it was a shoddy pre-flight if you ask me.
I have been flying for a few years and each time I use a check-list to to make sure I don't act like a human and make a mistake. Better safe than sorry.
@Shabockery That's what all engineers at Riddle think and, quite frankly, nobody gives a shit what they say. They're engineers and that's enough said.
That's not cool at all. We're training to be professional aviators, and while he made a mistake, its a flight school. You don't go to school because you know everything. It would be nice if you did not slam an entire flight program based on the actions of one student. Thank you.
Let me guess, you go to riddle. Get your head out of your ass. Riddle is an overpriced school that advertises itself as the harvard of the skies. People wouldn't hate on riddle so much if everybody at the school didn't bullshit themselves. Like you said, its just a flight school. THAT IS ALL IT IS.
not cool to generalize this is more like an individual not aokkying one of the emphasis areas that FAA really wants you to do which is......CHECKLIST USAGE!...Bad bad bad not even at a private pilot level this is not forgiven...
I think you should have tried to alert them if you saw the chocks, instead of waiting to videotape an accident. Someone could have been hurt, including you being so close to them.
@kenduc999 How could there have been an accident? It isn't like he is going anywhere. Even if he were to jump the chocks Cessna 172's come standard with an idle setting and brakes.
Its fine to make a mistake but to blame it on someone else? the pilot is responsible for his own aircraft. Its his job to take out the shocks not the ground crew. That is the type of people that fly at Riddle, at least some are extremely stuck up and spoiled.
lol i did that a few weeks ago , but its only because the aircraft was parked in an area it wasnt meant to be in. we tie down and never use chalks. But i caught it before i tried to power up, so i didnt look as dumb
just cuz this individual had shown some stupidity and lack of attention to detail in preflight does not mean this is how ERAU pilots in general are. thats kind of a hasty generalization dont u think?
He reacted correct! Good Pilot! Shift the blame to someone else instead of accepting responsibility for your own actions... Blame the rampers... He will make a great pilot! (Sarcastic of course) Rampers for life!
