  • "This is an excellent video. I lived in Spanish Harlem from 1973-85. I remember shopping in La Marqueta and going to the Cosmo Theater on 116ST where you could see 2 current films for $3.00. Of course their was a lot of drugs and violence that made it scary at times. I lost several of my childhood friends due to gang violence and drug dealing and drug use. I go back there from time to time to reflect. The larger society with all of it's schemes and isms ain't much better.

  • being born (metropolitan hospital) in spanish harlem and raised there most of my live, some time change could bring positive changes in peoples live.Growing up in spanish harlem i grew up seeing lots of shoot outs, drug dealing, dope heads ect.It was not the best way to grow up and i thank god that i turn out ok.There's too many wanna be drug king pins.I hope change continues.

  • I can see why there is major tension as people will loose their homes due to the house prices going up, however if the whole place becomes safer due to "white yuppies" moving in then in my books thats a fantastic improvement.

Its sad that Spanish Harlem will lose its current cultural presence but to be fair before it became Spanish Harlem and it was just Harlem im sure it occupied mainly by white people who moved out because of the increased crime in the new Spanish Harlem so its rotational.
