  • thanks for the help

  • Just changed belt. 105000 miles. Never changed tensioner

  • If the belt tensioner is moving up and down on idle, is this indication of a bad tensioner?

  • @vuglialoro If it is moving a lot it could mean a week spring in the tensioner.

  • Hi Rich:: I'm watching you remove the belt tensioner,,But why are you removing it?

  • @baileyslip Just for the purpose of showing how to do it.

  • Been working on this project for hours. Looks like that breaker bar will eliminate the headache of not being able to get a wrench or socket onto the top mounting screw. Thanks a ton.

  • @hanoverfyst I find it works pretty darn good.

  • Thanks a million richpin06a !!!!

I just finished replacing my alternator and my belt tensioner on my SL1 1999. I just followed your instructions on the Saturn videos. With the money I just saved I guess I owe you a couple beers LOL !!!

  • dear richpin: i'm a 23 year old female college chemistry major, on a tight budget. you have shown me how to change my s.belt, radiator, water pump, spark plugs, engine & transmission oil and filters, fuel filter and more. you have saved me thousands of dollars by doing what you show on your videos, instead of taking my car to the saturn dealership service dept. thank you very much richpin. gianna b., paradise-california.

  • @renorickb chemistry major and auto mechanic....lol

  • @renorickb/// Dear Richpin: not funny, you saved me a lot of money. I will shot a short video of my saturn, talk about what i have repaired myself (thanks to you), and send it in a few days. look for it, will be from gianna b. in paradise, california. yes, there is really a paradise in the north state. keep an eye out for it, will be coming your way. gianna b.

  • 10 mm socket with 3/8 breaker bar Thanks a lot Richpin my belt tensioner will cost me 189$ plus labor at MIDAS i got one from scrap auto parts free i had to learn how to remove and install one Thanks.

  • hey man how do you reinstall the tensioner to a 99 oldsmobile alero? someone has taken it off and we cant seem to find the correct way to put it on

  • how do you replace one on a 96 saturn i cant reach the top screws

  • Thank you SaturnFans for bringing me here, and thank you richpin for giving me countless ideas, thus saving me hundreds if not thousands on labor.

  • how do you know its bad?

  • Planning on changing it next week. Thanks for showing me how easy it can be.

  • Tensioner on my 94 SL broke last week- I had a pretty good idea on how to get this done, but now I know exactly- Thanks for posting this video!

  • Quick reference (richpin covers it in the video):

You'll need a 10mm 6-point socket for the 2 bolts holding the tensioner, and a 14mm wrench to loosen the tensioner so you can take the belt off.
