Just quality, stands up so well after 30 years. Great beat, awesome bass to add depth, great early synth and fantastic brass to add power... love it still.
the 80's was crap, for every reward the was a million shit pop records, go and have a look at the charts from back then, it is filled with unmitigated shite, record of record of synthetic pap. There where the odd ray of sunshine like soft cell, the bunnymen and copey, and all the early hip hop,but it was a case of marking time until house music hit in about 88. love this vid thou, down on the docks b4 they were re-developed, if you read head on, it's basically all Julian's friends in the vid.
EXCellent.~!! time moved differently in.86 when i first heard cope. he's diff now,& i am too.the world of the day seemingly had a permanency -then it all changed.../ only greatness stands through time
Bless my cotton socks, I still wear my "Out of the Culture Bunker THE TEARDROP EXPLODES" teeshirt 30 years on.
I used to worship the ground he walked on, but, to be honest, in retrospect, most of the output of the Teardrop Explodes (and I own it all on vinyl, CD and MP3) was naval-gazing rubbish. Also, in retrospect, he's not as hot as I used to think.
@thetopbird What are you on? Is this really McCulloch in disguise? Sounds like you've taken more drugs than all The Teardrops put together! Be honest, you're just trying to be provocative. Yes?
@MisAnnThorpe ooh, just spotted this! Honestly, I just have the benefit of 44 years of living now, as opposed to 14 when I was a disciple. And, all in all, Cope really wasn't all that. McCulloch and his work, however, still stand up. (SORRY, I know your going to hate me forever now, but it's how I feel. The poppies are in the field, but don't ask me what that means.)
Why have you 'orrible lot given me 5 thumbs downs on my lovely Teardrop Explodes joke?.......I got this Joke from Mr Copes auto-biography!...it was HIS joke!...so you are dissing the Drude!...so there!...and I'm a Teardrop.fan..so boo on you you miserable bunch ...... parp!
ah! wrong!.....I'm a country bumpkin [loike Mr Cope is now!] so's oi know that female cattle do indeed have horns [depending on the breed] -most cowsies have their horns removed when dey are young. But some like American long-horn, Jerseys,Guernseys etc often are allowed to keep them if they are good and don't gore ramblers and things.Have an amazing day.H.Hx
Yes, not only is it very weird but also against the law. So remember to turn yourself over to the authorities at the conclusion of tomorrow's school day, lawbreaker freakjob. *eyeroll*
I once had a face to face conversation with Julian Cope about 3 months ago now, that dude is one crazy-clever guy, we discussed everything from Japanese tours to bass tone!! this song is awesome!
my uncle tony bought me this single the day i got thrown out of school when i was about thirteen, happy memories. the videos great, dystopian, just like stepney where i was living at the time. keep it up
I swear to God.....Reward, Treason, SLeeping Gas......they all sound like they were ripped off from American telly game show themes from the mid-seventies!!
Theres been a lot of claims about the importance of Saint Julian - but as the originator of gangster rap.... naaa that was Richard Madeley (or failing that Stuart Hall)
Could anyone, ANYONE, please upload the appeareance of the Teardrop's on Granada TV?
The Camera, Camera one in 1979...please, please, please, I beg of you...that performance is legendary and I think everyone who is a fan of Cope's band would appreciate immensely! Please?
Uh uh. A Flock of Seagulls were from the Wirral. Other side of the Mersey. A very different place! Everybody in Liverpool at the time thought AFOS were a huge joke and when they became huge in the US obviously everybody in Liverpool thought that said a lot about the US!
They weren't from the Wirral at all. Frank Mawdsley for a start was from Norris Green. I used to see them around Allerton way before they made it big in the USA. They were a joke I'll give you that.
daneillnay - I don't know if you took a lot of drugs in the early 80s or if it's just plain old ignorance but AFOS are from Liverpool. Mike Score was born in Yorkshire but moved to Liverpool at an early age and formed the band with his brother, Ali, Frank Maudsley and Paul Reynolds. All of whom were born in Liverpool
what can i say uve said it all ..fab int it.. colours fly away is another crackin video and song that must have been recorded at the same time, i cant find it on you tube but its in my head . please someone post it . a teardrop fan forever...
