  • anyone know where this was filmed? thanks

  • @Loughton397 Liverpool Docks

  • the best years barrrrrr none.

  • can't beat the 80's

  • another great 80's song.

  • If you listen carefully you can hear Ian McCulouch laughing in the backround!

  • @FSMnoodle Mac was not in the teardrop explodes

  • Just quality, stands up so well after 30 years. Great beat, awesome bass to add depth, great early synth and fantastic brass to add power... love it still.

  • fantastic, absolutely

  • a classic of the early 80's, brings back memories.

  • What a track!

  • 80's.....what can you say?? Awesome

    what have you got today?

Lady Gaga and Dubstep LOL don't make me laugh!!

  • That chorus piano playing underneath is brilliant.

  • electrifying sound!

  • the 80's was crap, for every reward the was a million shit pop records, go and have a look at the charts from back then, it is filled with unmitigated shite, record of record of synthetic pap. There where the odd ray of sunshine like soft cell, the bunnymen and copey, and all the early hip hop,but it was a case of marking time until house music hit in about 88. love this vid thou, down on the docks b4 they were re-developed, if you read head on, it's basically all Julian's friends in the vid.

  • @yakacm they seem good know though

  • @yakacm Seriously, not a clue.

  • Oh God... what I wouldn't give to be living through the 80s instead of this era. 80s music, clothing, culture... it would just be a dream come true.

  • Roger Cook's Penis couldn't have it

  • @MrAggtee Hahhaashahhhhaaaa!!!!!!!! fuck! excellente'

  • AWSOME SONG!!

  • EXCellent.~!! time moved differently in.86 when i first heard cope. he's diff now,& i am too.the world of the day seemingly had a permanency -then it all changed.../ only greatness stands through time

  • the days when i was trying to ring an extra 5mph out of my moped, great song

  • he killed all of the children

  • hah! Brilliant!

    we need that time machine.

    baby.

  • Comment removed

  • Absolutely top of the heap! Percussive up-tempo tune never fails to involve the listener right to the last note. Terrific!

Modern pop "artists" know nothing - unless they've got a computer and some ripped-off samples handy.....

  • these were the day like IT....................

  • eeeeewwwwww

  • Brilliant tune. Julian Cope was a great vocalist and the band excellent. Don't make em like this anymore

  • Fabulous ,, Top Drawer

  • Great tune !

  • @TRB1946 ♥ ♥

  • Probably not a great idea getting that close to a bonfire with big f*ck-off hair like that!!!!

  • With all the 80's revival going on, where is Julian Cope nowadays?

  • On the 80's theme

  • one of the best songs of the 80s

  • I so wanted one of those Jackets ...

  • SO much better than the mass produced unoriginal shite we have pamped into our ears nowadays by the mind numbing fuckwits of commercial radio!

  • Bass playing is great in this :)

  • Another SUPERB "classic" from the eighties, unlike the mass produced rejigged shit we ca ll " popular" music today!

  • great classic

  • Take me back to Eric's NOW!

  • Fabulous brass section, I liked it then I love it now, I wonder how they would have got on at X Factory

  • One of THE key sounds for all us 30-40 somethings. I'm 13 all over again.

  • I wanna ride in that jeep!

  • everyone loves to listen to this, a true 80s gem.

  • is it true teardrop explodes where from wirral?

  • 30 something years

  • I listen to this and i could be back in school, seems like yesterday never mind 20 something years.

  • Bless my cotton socks, I still wear my "Out of the Culture Bunker THE TEARDROP EXPLODES" teeshirt 30 years on.

I used to worship the ground he walked on, but, to be honest, in retrospect, most of the output of the Teardrop Explodes (and I own it all on vinyl, CD and MP3) was naval-gazing rubbish. Also, in retrospect, he's not as hot as I used to think.

Still wear the teeshirt, though! :-)

  • @thetopbird What are you on? Is this really McCulloch in disguise? Sounds like you've taken more drugs than all The Teardrops put together! Be honest, you're just trying to be provocative. Yes?

  • @MisAnnThorpe ooh, just spotted this! Honestly, I just have the benefit of 44 years of living now, as opposed to 14 when I was a disciple. And, all in all, Cope really wasn't all that. McCulloch and his work, however, still stand up. (SORRY, I know your going to hate me forever now, but it's how I feel. The poppies are in the field, but don't ask me what that means.)

  • fantastic yes im an 80s throw back

  • Mr Cope you rock!!

  • DOESNT GET BETTER THAN THIS!

  • drive to this track and you will forget all the shit the day holds..believe me it works..

  • It's criminal how underrated Teadrop were generally

  • I'm related to Julian Cope!

  • Proper music!!

  • pip pip

  • This is the Teardrops performing their rather spiffing tune Reward. Jolly good, what?

  • great song

  • (;->

  • I Long to accept my reward....

  • Good song - the synch on this vid is crap tho

  • One of the very best bands ever, with many songs that will last. Julian Cope is a living genius.

  • And filmed in Liverpool!

  • COME ON YOU REDS

  • Julian Cope; What a Nutter, I don't care if he says he's sane

  • fucking "A" !

what a great sound. i remember this video being on during Tiswas when I was a kid ;o)

  • I never heard most of these UK songs when I was growing up. I only heard the top 40 pop songs on the US charts. I missed out on a lot of great songs.

  • A brilliant 80's classic,wonder what there doing now.

  • What an absolute classic. Julian Cope was perhaps the best vocalist of his generation and a brilliant showman. Makes me weep for the early 80s

  • Immense

  • i have a horn . what kind of cow am i?

  • Why have you 'orrible lot given me 5 thumbs downs on my lovely Teardrop Explodes joke?.......I got this Joke from Mr Copes auto-biography!...it was HIS joke!...so you are dissing the Drude!...so there!...and I'm a Teardrop.fan..so boo on you you miserable bunch ...... parp!

  • tune i tell thee

  • Hey does anyone know where i can get this song foe free?

  • O.K; whats the difference between The Teardrop Explodes and a Cow??????......

The Cow has horns at the front and a twat at the back.............sorry! [love 'em really!]

  • A cow with horns doesnt have a twat......sorry!

  • ah! wrong!.....I'm a country bumpkin [loike Mr Cope is now!] so's oi know that female cattle do indeed have horns [depending on the breed] -most cowsies have their horns removed when dey are young. But some like American long-horn, Jerseys,Guernseys etc often are allowed to keep them if they are good and don't gore ramblers and things.Have an amazing day.H.Hx

  • 5*****

  • Love this ol' classic... thankyou for posting this!

  • i remember i was 11, great song!

  • Oh hells yeah, I love this.

  • proper 80s music- proper bo!

  • brings back brill memories of the classic 80's sound

  • Class!!!!!

  • Is it wierd to love this song at 14?? x

  • Absolutely 100% not - good on yer! : )

  • Yes, not only is it very weird but also against the law. So remember to turn yourself over to the authorities at the conclusion of tomorrow's school day, lawbreaker freakjob. *eyeroll*

  • credit to yer hepburnjen, nice one

  • an absolute belter luv this!!!!!!

  • Yep...its a top tune, and i remember where, what and who i was with at the time. love it and its part of my late teens and early 20s growing up. lol.

  • I once had a face to face conversation with Julian Cope about 3 months ago now, that dude is one crazy-clever guy, we discussed everything from Japanese tours to bass tone!! this song is awesome!

  • my uncle tony bought me this single the day i got thrown out of school when i was about thirteen, happy memories. the videos great, dystopian, just like stepney where i was living at the time. keep it up

  • I love this song, always have. But can someone tell me what it is all means? Explain the lyrics to me.

  • Don't you love it!

    What more can be said!

  • This is awesome, the brass is great!

    Nice quality video thanks!

  • O.M.G love it,been time since ive heard this,so so loving it !!!

  • SAME HERE KID !

  • I swear to God.....Reward, Treason, SLeeping Gas......they all sound like they were ripped off from American telly game show themes from the mid-seventies!!

  • What an absolute kick-ass tune this is!Thanks for uploading.

  • Reward was 1981 UK #6, should of been number 1...

  • Great tune...

  • One of the first singles I ever bought, still got it somewhere. Great stuff

  • And running around the Welsh hills chasing his bandmates with a shot-gun. He never gets credited for starting gangsta rap.

  • Theres been a lot of claims about the importance of Saint Julian - but as the originator of gangster rap.... naaa that was Richard Madeley (or failing that Stuart Hall)

  • youre begging eh

  • Could anyone, ANYONE, please upload the appeareance of the Teardrop's on Granada TV?

The Camera, Camera one in 1979...please, please, please, I beg of you...that performance is legendary and I think everyone who is a fan of Cope's band would appreciate immensely! Please?

  • give him some credit, he aint into a career in the coldplay sense....he just followed his nose/instincts

  • another reason why the 80s was the best decade of music!

    love this!

  • Julian cope...too much dope..but what a genius i love hedonism..

  • Great Track ......

  • Julian Cope sort of tended to destroy his own career every time it was getting started.

World shut your mouth (single) could've launched a career.

World shut your mouth (album) could've also launched a career.

Tended to fall out with record companies pretty quickly, didn't he?

  • Brilliant

  • Ashes to Ashes wimped out a bit. Didn't buy the soundtrack as this was the least mainstream song on it - how about I travel?

  • Yep mate I travel..when simple minds were trendy..they really were!!

  • Brilliant song

  • A bit like Flock of Seagulls but not as cringeworthy, this is another one of the lesser acknowleged Libpool bands. Still good tho.

  • Uh uh. A Flock of Seagulls were from the Wirral. Other side of the Mersey. A very different place! Everybody in Liverpool at the time thought AFOS were a huge joke and when they became huge in the US obviously everybody in Liverpool thought that said a lot about the US!

  • They weren't from the Wirral at all. Frank Mawdsley for a start was from Norris Green. I used to see them around Allerton way before they made it big in the USA. They were a joke I'll give you that.

  • ofc they they thought they were a joke, you've seen those haircuts?? :-/

Awesome song.. and video hahahaha :D:D:D:D:D

    5 * :D

  • daneillnay - I don't know if you took a lot of drugs in the early 80s or if it's just plain old ignorance but AFOS are from Liverpool. Mike Score was born in Yorkshire but moved to Liverpool at an early age and formed the band with his brother, Ali, Frank Maudsley and Paul Reynolds. All of whom were born in Liverpool

  • what can i say uve said it all ..fab int it.. colours fly away is another crackin video and song that must have been recorded at the same time, i cant find it on you tube but its in my head . please someone post it . a teardrop fan forever...

  • Easily the best song on the Ashes to Ashes Soundtrack.

  • Agreed.

  • classsssss

  • cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • my friend always says 'nude' instead of 'news'

    Classic!

  • I think it's "Bless my cotton socks". Just thought I'd mention.

  • and he says "I'm in the news" not I'm in the nude

  • LOL, yes, of course.

  • *Sigh*

It's a classic misheard lyric. Do I have to explain that?

Here's another classic: "last night I jerked off some dago" [La Isla Bonita]. Please don't correct me - I realise it is incorrect.

  • Its "Bless my cotton socks, im in the news"!!!!!!!

  • saw them live 82 odeon bham , mad as a hatter though !!

  • TUNE. briliant.

  • Great stuff, many thanks

  • Best band I ever saw. Guildford civic, saw the Jam there, brilliant but, this lot took a 1/3 of the stage with a big sheet thing behind them. Good mems for sure.

  • i went to detention centre on that basrard!

  • Awesome live band too - and I actually wanted to buy a Jeep after seeing this video!! Sad eh hahaha!

  • Teardrop Explodes...what an kickass group! I've got their two albums on one CD (Kilimanjaro and Wilder), and they're both really good.

    -MINESWEEP

  • I believe November 1980 correct?

  • It is brilliant. (...or as we used to say back on Mars, "gobble goo goo goobity goo gilla gill gillo gaw.")

  • Dude, that is Hugo Ball sound poetry!

    Tuufm, i zimbra.

  • teardrops best

  • this song is a perfect 10 this is one of the best songs on 1980 simply the best !!!!!!!!

  • What more can be said?

  • Always one of my fave bands - consider that "The Crucial Three" had Pete Wiley, Julian Cope and Ian McCullough ... eep-o-rama! When I dream ...

  • ... and even Ian McCulloch too! :-P

  • The best track ever.

  • KLFC- wicked stingers still available! 99p!

  • lmao muhhwa :)

  • Dunno, the dudes were all tripping.Still sounds good though.

  • ditto. wasn't it a reference to the blanket prison protests in Northern Ireland?

  • fantastic!! still sounds magic after all these years.thank you.

  • One of the first records I ever bought and still a classic. Thanks.
