dude, you are SO right! i think i saw them on this tour. PESTILENCE opened the show, then CARCASS, then DEATH!! it was at Joe's Garage in Ft. Worth, Texas. i might have posted my flyer to that show on gigposters.
who should have the last word? someone like the pope? and the better question, if there would be a final statement that this music originally came from england/us/cambodia or whatever... what the fuck could that ever really mean to anyone??
The band called venom created the first black/extreme movement with their album 'black metal'.the norwegian metal scene started to grow taking cues from venom's album black metal.so venom has to be the pioneers of the whole scene in a way
but yeah metal owes a lot to usa as well for bands like metallica, death et cetra
@Shenocide33 i must disagre.. if im not worng thrash were invented in UK with Venom`s Welcome to Hell considered the fisrt thrash metal album. And Black Metal sucks.... but not old school Black Metal (Bathory, Hellhammer, Parabellum...etc)
as far as drum technique, ken had none, but as far as how he made the band sound, i preffer ken over daniel anytime, he may not had good technique or tempo but the passion he had for playing the music was unique, i wish more musicians shared his spirit nowadays, everybody seems to forget that music has feeling
it's funny because if you ever read the lyrics of the songs, it's all about bowl erosion and such but there aint a shit on chance that they are actually saying that into the mic.. class doom though. it still gives me the heave in my stomach when i listen to it *boak* lol
@jaymchay - it's not a matter of opinion - it's a matter of fact they are singing the lyrics. Example at 2:31 before the Cadaveric Resin solo he says:
"Tissue gases leak - a warm unpleasant reek - a quite macabre addiction - deteriorated bloated corpse decomposure burning hot - sniff the smell of carrion" you should read and learn the lyrics and you might understand what they are saying rather than shooting off at the mouth about something that isn't true.
@kpmorgan Its more than a little bold of you to so adamant at what is being said. bill steer 'sings' through a harmonizer and frankly, could be saying anything. The lyrics read like a scientific paper so I find it hard to believe that this can be memorized and applied on-stage. There is no need to be so defensive; I am not saying anything other than a reasonable deduction.
@jaymchay - It's a little bold of me? It a little bold of you to say that the lyrics can't be remembered. I did it when I was in high school I remembered all the lyrics to SOS and still remember all of them to Empathologicial Necroticism track 5. You are not making a reasonable deduction when it is obvious you do NOT know what you are talking about. Watch the Grindcrusher 89 videos and follow along with the lyrics and you will see they are singing what they wrote.
@kpmorgan - hold it. you seem to be well off on a tangent here. are you seriously suggesting that the vocals, sung through a harmonizer, are to be heard for what is written?
@jaymchay - No NO NO NO! Jay! I am not off on a tangent. It all correlates to your initial post. And....yes I am seriously suggesting that you can hear what is written through the harmonizer since I know what the lyrics are. Again, read the fucking lyrics while listening to the song you fucking MUNCH! Just because your poseur ass can't understand them doesn't mean they are not singing them.
@jaymchay What the fuck are you talking about? I've been a Carcass fan since '93 and every time I've heard the songs, no matter in what form... album, bootlegs, and videos... they always have the same lyrics. I'm not saying they're easy to understand all the time, but if you have the lyrics with you can easily understand what he' s saying. I'm guessing you don't listen to much death metal.
Anyway, cool vid. It's good to see Ken behind the kit.
@Heavymetalvideogamer - What's the relevance of the time you have been listening to this music? Read back the thread before bumping your gums at me. What is they say about assumptions? That it makes a schmuck out of you. Do better than to profess you know me.
mike amott is the other guitarist, he was in a band called carnage previous to joining carcass, he left carnage to join napalm death with bill steer but when bill left napalm he convinced mike to join carcass instead, he now plays in arch enemy.
Well that's lame this was in my hometown but it was 2 months before i was born, this gig is legendary, i believe that day Pestilence and Death also played...
@XxsoulsuckerxX yeah, he could really pound those skins. Mind you better no Ken in Carcass than no Ken at all. I have always admired the way he came back from such a serious illness. Thx Ken for the drumming and your inspiration in the face of terrible adversity
@Drwhofan1971 very true, it really is incredible and admirable how strong he is and the strength and will power he has had. i work with people with mental and physical disabilities and know how hard it can be to stay positive and optimistic in such situations. so cheers to Ken for all those awesome years behind the kit in Carcass and for being such a warrior in life in his struggle \m/

I like the way Ken attacks the drums, I think that's missing in a lot of todays death / grind.
