I remember the smell. Wooooow. You could only get so close to the mountains of garbage bags and you had to turn back. All this happened during summer of course, hot and humid.

seriago, In "green" towns and cities, residents sort and place recyclables in large clear plastic bags. More recycling centers that pay by the pound for paper,cardboard ,aluminum,brass,copper and steel within communities will help poverty. These have to be within walking distance as the ones that would benefit, most don't own cars .Compost is piled for 2 to 3 years till it is old enough then it is sold in garden centers bagged as "Black Gold" this includes any fill and vegetable matter.

First of all city workers (garbage and ambulance attendance in particular) should be essential workers who have NO RIGHT to strike. 18 sick days paid? Are you kidding me? I think the leaders at the bargaining table for the union need the boot!!!!! I will continue to get rid of my garbage on my own. David Miller better not back down. We are in a recession people!!!!!! I work in a building and i have to deal with the garbage, it is hard job, and my job is only changing the bin and put the bins outside, now imagine those people who have to practicallly dive in it. The goverment says the can't afford to bank their sick days? yet wee see all the fag politicians dancing and laughing in the gay parade with enough money to hire private garbage companies to do the clean up. Where is the fairness?

Correct, many years I took none. I work in construction as an estimator, a non-union firm.

When we did bid on a job for the city and where obliged to carry union trades we'd add a 30% escalator due to the lack of productivity. By the way I know all about the history of unions, but it's devolved into a cheap excuse not to work.

I live downtown Toronto and there is not garbage piling up on the streets. Torontonians are smart enough not to trash the place they live. I should video my neighbourhood to show the truth about the situation. The scary music in this video is the same type of hype that accompanies news stories about this. I have started a worm composter for the organic waste, have a large recycling bin that takes more than a month to fill and am trying to buy products with as little packaging as possible.

What if David Miller did that to your contract? The mayor is trying to pinpoint the garbagemen to make them look they are the criminals. But David Miller is not making any attempt to try to stop the strike. These men who are on strike desperately want to go back to work, because for many, they are living off of nothing.
