I don't think he ever mastered legato tonguing, everything just sounds staccato taking away from the musical value. An I'm not gunna lie, trombone is very hard to play as low as he is. I do love his soft tone though...

i see a lot of thumbs down, but i took private lessons from a music professor. he had a larger gauge t-bone that was a yamaha and spoke very highly of it. this guy also had a king 3b and a selmer bass t-bone. his father was also a ''slide man'' who was a professor and used to give lessons when he was young.

interestingly, the first year of lessons is composed mostly of how to breathe and lip technique. the fancy playing comes later...after you've mastered the basics.
