  • @EvolvedSkeptic "....and you're clinging rat-like to Bronze Age candles while cursing the darkness"

Thank you for providing me with my new favourite metaphor. I love you, much homo.

  • Thank you for posting this, allstar21369.

  • @EvolvedSkeptic Lastly, it is frankly sophomoric to default to non-belief as an intellectual personal philosophy on the issue. Its a trendy modern identity that has to do with moderate education, image consciousness and other social/psycho injunctions. Trust that (getting back to my very first comment about you) you are an equal albeit opposite counterpart to the religious follower.

  • @EvolvedSkeptic You are not totally off base in your skepticism. I say again that it is because of misinformation, based on the INCLUSION (I'm not "blustering" the caps are for emphasis) of the "myths" that you are having a hard time separating from the truth contained in the bible. If God is indeed "Master of the Universe" and "All Mighty" (as He claims) would he not be able to manipulate the natural elements and cause a pregnancy? -which is a complex series of chemical reactions set in motion?

  • @EvolvedSkeptic Ha! what is a Jewish zombie? Jesus? anyway yes I will continue. and you can continue to claim to know all that is possible in existence. But remember that what you object to are WRONG ideas about what you think the bible teaches. I'm confident that I could debunk - one at a time - all of your criticisms that have to do with facts and not opinions.

  • The reward for looking into the bible without bad motives is finding positive proof and also exposing the criticisms as weak and mostly fictional slander. I'm not even a conservative or a typical Christian by any means. I just see that its all about where a persons heart is at and only a select few will know about God. I'm not bragging but I'm glad I dont see things the way all my trendy clone-like piers do. yes there are religious clones but there is a select few that are different.

  • @EvolvedSkeptic Lesson #5 (you should thank me) The "Epic" of Gilgamesh contains a single partial tablet that references the food and (along with many other myths from around the world) supports the biblical account. Do you think perhaps that the Akkadians plagiarized the EARLIER Sumerian accounts that feature a counterpart to Noah "a pious man who receives revelations"? I'm so sorry that your wishful conclusions dont fit the facts. Your manic objections are projections against authority.

  • no shit! Protestant and Catholic crap is a sham!!! but the bible is beyond reproach and I DO NOT CARE about all of you non thinking people that simply cannot and will not really see anything for yourself. do you think that listening an eloquent speaker about something you are already biased to is informing you in anything? cant you see that the trick worked in turning people OFF to God through the ages by twisting the bible and misrepresentation? God lives in everyones mind and we will answer.

  • this guy is so dumb to think he can criticize something on the basis of his uninformed ideas! the "scapegoating" was a metaphor for things to come. He's making such petty issues out of perhaps the deepest principals in the universe. Just so you get it straight (and of course you dont have to believe it) Jesus GAVE his life WILLINGLY to pay the RANSOM for something we DID NOT DO initially but all pay for. which is NOT LIVING UP TO THE RIGHTEOUS STANDARDS THAT WOULD ACTUALLY BRING PEACE.

  • @EvolvedSkeptic You need to straighten out your vocabulary being that you fling it around inappropriately. not that I should teach you how to insult people but "bucolic" is lending a rather auspicious element to your otherwise feeble derogatory statement. Also your fixation on the "Bronze Age!!!" is another lame duck. It takes a seriously limited person not to realize the caliper of the people that came before us. you and your nintendo wouldnt have lasted a day in the "Bronze Age!!!"

  • @EvolvedSkeptic You get a chuckle... but cant answer to or back up your own bloated criticisms. failed in your assuming that I dont have an education too. would be willing to bet my school was better rated than yours. There are many very intelligent people who know the truth about the bible. but yes it is a GREAT minority, even in the religious community. If you just READ my comment without simultaneously forming a rebuttal, you might get something. -But not likely. 2 Tim 3:

  • @EvolvedSkeptic You and both speakers are hopelessly lost in a misinformed state. what you will always struggle with is the fact that you have been given only misrepresentations of biblical issues and then predictably and obviously glutted yourself on the antidote which was given from the same misleading source. Have fun chasing down the wrong culprit for the rest of your days. u r puppet.. not a single original thought; someone else moves your mouth. your comment was all quotes.

  • Wow the quality of this video is fantastic.

  • Hitchens is fantastic, thanks very much for posting :) Robots

  • @trubornagain

it's easier to be "born again" than to grow up ...

  • This is one of his best speeches! I just wish everyone would watch this

  • Comment removed

  • @Roaddogg666 Indeed.

  • Definitely one of his finest :)

  • For me this is a Life changing speech.

  • What a fantastic speech.

  • Gotta love Hitchens. Could listen to him all day.

  • That really is great. Thanks for uploading.

  • This may be Hitchens at his very best. Exceptional and just.. wow.

  • The reason Hitchens is so good is because he just speaks the truth and thats it.

  • It's very pleasurable just to listen to such eloquently delivered points.

  • daleboy50

    how about no religion

  • how about philosophy and science.. Or both; the hubble! ;).

  • so...NOT believing a silent, invisible super ghost invented the universe and impregnated a virgin to give birth to a magic carpenter/zombie

    that makes me a sheep?

    interesting

so EVERYONE who disbelieves there is a super, silent, invisible, magic man in the sky...is a sheep?

    Okay??

  • dont u mean god lovin, allah lovin, sun god lovin, (pick one, the others you are an atheist towards too!!!) fuckin sheep. baaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! think for yourself. dont believe the constantly changing bible or koran or astrologists, whichever you believe. the funny thing is that you have to be an atheist towards at least 2 of those religions(but also towards THOUSANDS more) but I can gurantee 100% that you try to justify it by saying your "god" is real because you KNOW.

  • ummm.. ok?

  • I just typed in "Farrakhan+wheel" its what came up.. and he still said it. You still have no legs to stand on.

  • I don't agree with Hitchens that if we knew then what we know now, theism would not have taken place. I still think there are a lot of uneducated stupid people that would like to be herded around like sheep, and would like to think that they were great and they would live forever in a great place if they were good.

  • you are absoloutly right in what you say...the folks of whom you speak live in ,,wait for it...ehrmm,i think the name is U,S,and A

  • Well not if EVERYBODY knew.

  • (/watch?v=SSoOcon52ng) He's a racist and a fool to boot. There is no debate there, Mel Gibson's father. Farrakhan is not worthy of debunking or respect and you cannot pin down an entire race of people as being devils, evil, cunning, or any other derogatory slur. Racism is WRONG.

  • well stated, take care.

  • First, thanks for posting this vid.

It's always a pleasure to hear Mr. Hitchens speak.

I couldn't help but notice the banner in the background. Religion & Peace. What an irony!

  • You got that right.

Discussion of religion in a scientific setting is not appropriate. Atheism is a belief structure and view point from which opinions are based, not a scientific endevor.

Scientists don't have symbols to represent a god or no god in their equations.

Science needs to completely ignore arguments for or against god and get back to classical physics with falsifiable testing.

  • I'd say atheism is a RESULT of a belief structure and view point from which opinions are based, not a scientific endeavor, but often a result of scientific inquiry.

I assure that the scientists in physics, biology, and whatever else are generally not concerned with unfalsifiable claims anymore than they're concerned with geocentricity. They turn their critical ire to faith when it rears its ugly head to try to inhibit progress and education.

  • Not really.

Most of the notable scientists in history have tended to be agnostic, which would be a more appropriate viewpoint to approach science from.

Since god can not be proven or disproved, it is a matter of faith, not science.

The truly great scientists do not concern themselves with proving or disproving the existence of a god.

  • I agree with everything you just said. That's why I say "often." Perhaps it would be more precise to refer to the scientific community as nonreligious (agnostics, atheist, and even deist). Either way, I think it would be an awful thing if the religious loud mouths and their conflated "facts" were not confronted by sounds theory by some of the most knowledgeable among us; whether it be scientists, journalists, or philosophers.

  • I want to clarify that even as a non-believer I think this newish fad of bashing religions among our intellectuals is boring and unnecessary. I took a philosophy class once where the teacher began by saying,"I'm going to assume that as adults you have given up the notion of God." Although that seems abit too dismissive to me, I tend to believe feel the same way about this stuff. There are better things to talk about than invisible characters and the fools who recommend them so heartily.

  • just last week you posted on my video that "Since when did Hitchens obtain followers" and now I see you posting comments appaulding this pork face "atheist." Boy, you really let these jews control your thinking LOL. let the man take your money; they've been stealing from the goyims for centuries

  • I would hope that my comment above only clarified the fact that I don't think Hitchens has followers. Or at least show how much of a "follower" of Hitchens I am.

"...I think this newish fad of bashing religions among our intellectuals is boring and unnecessary."

Why do you bother going out of your way to lose so much, Mel Gibson's father? My views are consistent, and, to be honest, I think yours are too. You always will side with ridiculous conspiracy theories dribbled in anti-Semitic hatred.

  • what did I say that isn't true?

  • Of course not. How long has civilized society worked to drowned out your sort of primitive racial hatred? It is absolutely NOT TRUE that an entire race of people can be pinned down as being cunning and evil. I'll say it again "I think it says allot about your mindset that you listed Farrakhan as someone worthy of "debunking." He's a racist piece of shit just like you."

  • We are all in awe of your genius. I just thought I'd let you know. You've made another fan.

  • Christians are retarded...

  • if nothing else he's compelling

  • I must see this intellectual in person...
