Terrible rain=flooding. The flooding causing the lake to break a levee, thus causing the lake to decimate 200(?) feet of road, sending the lake to flow into the Wisconsin River.
I just want to thank all the people that made these videos of Lake Delton. I wanted to see it for myself. My family and I have been to this lake many times and I can't believe it's gone. I'll admit I DID CRY !!!!! I hate when something so beautiful is destroyed. Sorry for everything the people in the Dells area are going through. And every other flooded State. We hope and pray everything returns to normal soon. Be Strong !!!
Good job! Totally understand your dilemma. Glad you are okay. I'm originally from Chicago have lived in Green Bay 14 years now. So this is totally biz-aar like living in Tornado/flood alley. But in 14 years Green Bay has not been seriously hit or damaged. We have been getting a lot of rain the past week and thunderstorms in the area. The news never reports until its catastrophic and where were Google maps?
My prayers go to all those in the flood areas. Another serious sign of the end times.
I've had people comment how lame this is. I've had people nitpick that I call mudpits:sinkholes. Well, the goofiness into this, the nicknames for obviously well known terms, was...I didn't know how to act. If I were not around my friends, I would have been crying. No one understands unless they have seen this place before, what is truly gone. I fell in knee deep into a mudpit, a guy was nearly swallowed by the lakebed, this is a dangerous, sad place until the lake is restored.
It took courage to get video footage. Sad news, it's the beginning of the season. The rain has already broken records. You were blessed to get out. Makes me appreciate the vid that much more. I did a search: Wisconsin floods 2008 found this vid and others. TV news is lame. They act as if it's just another rain/tornado season in Wisconsin. Residents are telling the story, seeing unusual stuff. There was a tornado in Wis. in January, a bridge collapse in Minnesota last year. Thanks Silkzebra.
Yea, it's still taking awhile for it all to sink in that it's gone. Officials are working on plans on how to refill it as safely and as soon as possible.
Yea, when your finding sink holes in a barren lake and falling through them, wasn't so boring for us and I would have gone closer to the Tommy Bartlett stuff but the sink holes were getting worse and we wanted to get out of there.
This was a man-made lake that blew a earthen dike. The lake was built in 1920. The resevoir walls failed when all the rain came.

I used to spend most of my summers up at the Dells. Does anyone know what happened to the Speedboat guy? I'm glad you took this video. Thank you!

I have been to Lake Delton many times, but I don't understand how it drained. I know it is a man made lake, but did a dam fail ?
fuzzybekool 3 years ago
No dams broke, just with the flooding, it overpowered the lake, decimated 200 feet of highway I do believe, and then flowed into the Wisconsin river.

That's so sad.....I was in the dells the day before this happened...and the lake seemed really high...never thought this could happen....

It would be really freaky if you guys found a garbage bag full of body parts now that the lake drained out.

Yea, we talked about that. That would have been freaky!
